Job Overview
The Commercial Vehicle Fitter plays a key role in the assembly, installation, and modification of commercial vehicles, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Working within the Fitting Department, the postholder will be responsible for fitting and assembling vehicle bodies and associated equipment, including subframes, tipping gear, loader cranes, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Key Responsibilities

Assemble and fit out commercial vehicles in accordance with engineering drawings and company specifications.

Install and fit subframes, tipping gear, loader cranes, and associated equipment.

Build and install hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Carry out fabrication and fitting work using a variety of hand and power tools.

Perform MIG welding activities as required.

Use workshop equipment including pistol drills, riveters, MIG welders, and oxy-acetylene equipment safely and effectively.

Read and interpret technical drawings and accurately measure components prior to installation.

Work to agreed production schedules and quality standards.

Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with customer and company requirements.

Maintain a safe, clean, and organised work area.

Follow all company policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements.

Report defects, quality issues, or safety concerns to management promptly.

Undertake any other duties reasonably required to support workshop operations.
Skills & Experience
Essential
-
Experience working within a commercial vehicle, body-building, engineering, or manufacturing environment.

Ability to fit subframes, tipping gear, loader cranes, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Ability to read and interpret engineering and vehicle drawings.

Competent in MIG welding.

Good practical and mechanical aptitude.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately to specifications.

Understanding of health and safety requirements within a workshop environment.
Desirable
-
Previous experience working on commercial vehicles.

Experience of commercial vehicle body building and modifications.
-
Knowledge of hydraulic fault finding and repair.

Relevant engineering, fabrication, welding, or mechanical qualifications.

Forklift Truck Licence.

Commercial vehicle industry experience.
Working Environment

Manufacturing and fabrication workshop environment.

Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including ear protection, safety glasses, and safety footwear in designated areas.
Working Hours
Monday to Thursday 6.00am to 16.30pm
