Blythburgh, Suffolk Coast
Looking for a job that's outdoors, active and offers different challenges every day?
We're looking for a reliable, hardworking person to join our team at Blythburgh Pigs, a well-established free range pig farm on the beautiful Suffolk coast.
This isn't an office job. It's an opportunity to work outdoors, care for livestock, learn new skills and become part of an experienced farming team. If you're the sort of person who enjoys practical work, isn't afraid to get your hands dirty and takes pride in doing a good job, we'd love to hear from you.
Your work will include:
- Caring for our free range pigs to ensure the highest welfare standards.
- Feeding the pigs.
- Tractor driving.
- Bedding with straw and mucking out.
- Moving and handling pigs.
- Maintaining electric fencing.
- General farm maintenance and seasonal tasks.
- Plenty of other varied jobs around the farm.
Some tasks require patience and attention to detail, while others are physically demanding, but every job plays an important part in keeping our pigs healthy and our farm running smoothly.
What we're looking for
Experience is welcome, but it's your attitude that matters most.
You'll be:
- Reliable and dependable.
- Physically fit and happy with manual work.
- Keen to learn new skills.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather.
- Able to work by yourself and be motivated to achieve a good standard of work, while being part of a bigger team.
- Someone who takes pride in doing a job properly.
Experience that would be an advantage
- Working outdoors.
- Livestock or pig farming experience.
- Tractor or telehandler driving.
Don't worry if you don't have all of the above—we're happy to provide training for the right person.
The reality of the job
Farming is incredibly rewarding, but it's also honest, hard work.
In the summer you'll enjoy long days, fresh air and open countryside, along with having to work in the heat and plenty of dust. In the winter there'll be mud, rain, cold mornings and early starts. The pigs need looking after every day of the year, whatever the weather.
If you'd rather spend your day outdoors than behind a desk, you'll probably love it here.
Hours
- Around 45 hours per week.
- Monday to Friday, typical hours: 7:00am – 4:00pm.
- One weekend morning (approximately 4–5 hours).
- Some Bank Holiday work (because the pigs don't know it's a holiday!).
Opportunities to develop
We're a growing business with a wide range of responsibilities across the farm. As your skills and experience grow, there will be opportunities to learn different aspects of pig farming, machinery operation and take on more responsibility if that's something you're interested in.
