The Role:
The Roofing Tutor plays a critical role in delivering high-quality training and education to apprentices within the construction industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for equipping learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to complete their apprenticeship successfully. This role requires a proactive, organised, and passionate individual who can engage with learners from diverse backgrounds while maintaining a professional learning environment.
Location:
- 127 and 193 South Liberty Lane, Bristol, BS3 2SZ
Working Hours:
- Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 17.00. Flexibility is required, with occasional Saturdays for Open-day events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging and structured lessons in line with the roofing curriculum specification.
- Ensure the timely completion of all required paperwork and documentation to maintain compliance and funding requirements.
- Monitor learner attendance, flagging concerns to senior management as appropriate.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry changes and complete relevant CPD (Continuing Professional Development).
- Prepare materials, resources, and order supplies as necessary to support course delivery and End Point Assessments (EPAs).
- Maintain an organised, clean, and safe learning environment, including classrooms and workshops.
- Demonstrate roofing trade-specific skills to learners and assess their practical abilities.
- Work closely with key stakeholders, including employers, to support learner progression and ensure a positive apprenticeship experience.
- Maintain accurate stock records and oversee stock management systems.
- Carry out learner file audits and progress review audits to ensure compliance.
- Develop and maintain teaching resources, including PowerPoint presentations and lesson plans.
- Uphold company policies and ensure all health and safety regulations are met.
- Provide support, guidance, and intervention to help apprentices successfully complete their training.
- Attend company events such as open days and employer engagement meetings.
- Be adaptable to covering classes in the event of tutor absences.
- Awareness of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and flagging concerns to the appropriate individuals within the company as necessary.
- Work in line with the company's health and safety regulations.

Roofing Specialisms:
Roofing – Slate & Tile
- Lay slate and tile.
- Measuring.
- Setting out the roof.
- Cutting materials accurately.
- Felting and battening.
- Mixing mortar.
- Installing valleys and leadwork.
- Fixing fascias.
Roofing – Flat
- Setting up the work area.
- Measuring materials and spaces accurately.
- Cutting roofing materials to size.
- Felting and battening.
- Using a flame torch correctly and safely for torch-on roofing.
- Applying liquid waterproofing solutions (e.g., bitumen or black liquid).
- Nailing and securing flat roofing materials.
Roof - Cladding
- Setting up the work area.
- Measuring materials and spaces accurately.
- Cutting materials to size.
- Significant industry experience within the cladding sector.
- Excellent practical knowledge of modern cladding systems, installation techniques and industry standards
Qualifications and Skills:
- A good standard of education, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- At least 5 years of trade experience within the construction industry.
- Previous experience in education, training, or working in an apprenticeship delivery setting is essential.
- A passion for the trade and a commitment to delivering high-quality teaching.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to engage and motivate learners.
- Competence in Microsoft Office and general IT systems.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet targets, and work independently.
- A proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
- Experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds and supporting them in their learning journey.
- A flexible approach, including a willingness to work outside of standard hours when required.
- Understanding of safeguarding procedures and welfare responsibilities to ensure a safe learning environment for all learners.
- Suitable enhanced DBS check required.
Person Specification:
Essential Criteria
- Minimum of 10 years of trade experience in the roofing industry.
- Roofing qualification (Grandfather rights accepted)
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in IT and Microsoft Office.
- Enthusiastic, passionate, and committed to education.
- Experience working with apprenticeships.
Desirable Criteria
- Assessor qualification (A1, TAQA, or equivalent).
- Knowledge of funding compliance and apprenticeship frameworks.
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience in curriculum development.
- Assessor qualification (A1, TAQA, or equivalent).
