We are a general construction SME based in Chester-le-Street with sites across the North East. This is a friendly team of directly employed joiners, bricklayers, labourers and plumbers and we have several storage units in our yard with materials and equipment secured inside. We have a full time (or if preferred, part-time) vacancy for someone handy and organised to maintain our stores of small and large plant, consumables and electrical tools, accepting and storing deliveries of materials, keeping our storage units, skips and yard clear and orderly.
Our Yard and Plant Operative's Main Tasks
· Keeping our working construction yard in Chester-le-Street clear of obstruction and tidy as possible.
· Open up the yard at 7am prompt every morning so our team can get their vans ready for the day on site. (We are happy to discuss a flexible earlier finish time if preferred.)
· Manage our library of asset-tagged, company-owned equipment.
1. From Stihl saws to dumpers, our site staff sign items in and out according to need, and are responsible for returning in good order or reporting faults to you when they come back in. You'll be in charge of this process and can import new systems if you wish to make sure it runs smoothly.
2. Maintain our small plant and carry out repairs, making sure they're compliant/safe to go back out on site and if not, ordering replacements and consumables via our office.
3. Ensure our items of large plant and our fleet of vans is serviced (this is done externally) and in good working order, taking charge of our annual schedule for testing and servicing with the help of our admin team in the office.
4. Neatly file all necessary certification and records for future reference.
5. Carry out annual tests and certify our plant, for example PAT testing, TExT etc. We'll provide training if you need it, to help with this. (Calibration is done externally.)
· Accept and offload material deliveries using a forklift, and store them safely until needed.
· Manage deliveries of diesel and petrol to the yard.
· Take materials or plant to our sites on request from site managers in company van.
· Attend some health and safety training where necessary to keep you safe on our yard eg. Facefit, Manual Handling, First Aid.
· Carry out any other reasonable tasks (paint skips, erect signage etc) which may be required from time to time and to enable the company to remain adaptable to changing markets and needs.
