Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Adviser to support the delivery and continuous improvement of our EHS programmes across project sites and office locations throughout the UK, with a strong focus on rail and infrastructure projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an EHS professional who is passionate about promoting a positive safety culture, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, and partnering with operational teams to drive continuous improvement. Based out of Birmingham, this position involves a combination of office-based and site-based work. The successful candidate should be comfortable working outdoors and within operational and construction environments.
What You Will Do
- Support the implementation and maintenance of EHS policies and management systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
- Monitor EHS performance across project sites and support corrective and preventative actions.
- Provide EHS advice and guidance to project teams, operational personnel and subcontractors.
- Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, safety briefings and EHS training.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits, risk assessments and compliance reviews.
- Support incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and follow-up actions.
- Assist with maintaining company EHS programmes, procedures and management systems.
- Support environmental compliance activities including waste management, pollution prevention and environmental monitoring.
- Collect, analyse and report EHS performance data and leading indicators.
- Collaborate with project teams to support effective planning, risk management and safe systems of work.
- Travel regularly to project sites and offices throughout the UK and Europe.
What You Will Bring
- Minimum 3 years' experience in an EHS, Health & Safety or Environmental role within construction, engineering, manufacturing, industrial or similar sectors.
- HNC/HND, NVQ Level 6, degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) and a full UK Driving Licence.
- Strong understanding of UK health & safety legislation, environmental compliance requirements and risk management processes.
- Experience conducting audits, inspections, risk assessments and supporting contractors and operational teams in high-risk environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence positive safety behaviours and drive continuous improvement.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications and able to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH/ISEP membership, ISO 45001/14001 knowledge or Internal Auditor qualification. (Desirable)
- Experience within data centres, rail, construction, engineering, manufacturing or major project environments. (Desirable)
- Familiarity with Network Rail requirements, contractor management and permit-to-work systems. (Desirable)
