Job Purpose
The Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of engineering products, materials, equipment, and supplies to customers, suppliers, and project sites. The role plays a vital part in supporting operational activities while ensuring excellent customer service and compliance with all road transport regulations and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate company vehicles in accordance with road traffic laws and company procedures.
- Deliver and collect engineering components, materials, equipment, and tools from customers, suppliers, and project locations.
- Ensure deliveries and collections are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Load, secure, and unload goods safely to prevent damage during transportation.
- Complete all delivery documentation, vehicle check sheets, and transport records accurately.
- Carry out daily vehicle inspections and report any defects, maintenance requirements, or safety concerns promptly.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure company vehicles are presented professionally at all times.
- Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and colleagues regarding delivery schedules and any delays.
- Assist with warehouse duties, stock movement, and general operational support when required.
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures, including manual handling regulations.
- Represent UTS Engineering professionally when interacting with customers and external stakeholders.
Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceEssential
- Full UK driving licence with no major endorsements.
- Previous experience in a delivery or driving role.
- Good knowledge of UK road networks and transport regulations.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage daily delivery schedules.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Physically fit and capable of handling loading and unloading activities.
Desirable
- Experience working within an engineering, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
- Forklift Truck (FLT) licence.
- Experience operating vans and light commercial vehicles.
- Basic warehouse or stock control experience.
