Billericay Dental Care – Billericay, Essex
£34,132–£35,289 | Full-time | Permanent
Lead people. Own the patient experience. Raise the standard.
Are you an experienced team leader, supervisor or manager with a strong background in retail, healthcare, hospitality, corporate customer service or another people-focused environment?
Are you passionate about delivering an exceptional customer experience and confident leading a team to do the same?
Billericay Dental Care is looking for a Head Dental Receptionist to lead our front-of-house team and take ownership of the patient experience across the practice.
Important: Dental experience is desirable — leadership experience is essential.
You do not need to have worked in a dental practice to be successful in this role.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience leading a customer-facing team, setting service standards, coaching people, managing performance and creating an outstanding customer experience.
Your background could be in:
- Retail management
- Healthcare or private healthcare
- Hospitality
- Corporate or professional services
- Customer service
- Hotels
- Premium/luxury retail
- Other high-service, customer-facing environments
What matters most is your ability to lead people, manage standards and create an exceptional experience for customers or patients.
What you’ll own --
1. Patient Journey & Experience
You’ll become the champion of the patient journey, ensuring every patient feels valued, listened to and genuinely cared for.
You’ll:
- Own the patient journey from first enquiry through to ongoing care and follow-up.
- Ensure every patient receives a warm, professional and personalised experience.
- Look for opportunities to exceed expectations and create memorable “WOW” moments.
- Identify friction points and improve the patient journey.
- Work closely with clinicians and the wider team to create a seamless experience.
2. Service Excellence
You’ll set the standard for what great front-of-house service looks like.
You’ll:
- Set clear expectations for service and professionalism.
- Monitor standards and ensure consistency across the team.
- Coach and develop team members.
- Identify gaps in service and take action.
- Introduce and improve processes and service standards.
- Use feedback to drive improvements.
- Lead by example and create a culture of ownership and accountability.
3. Team Development & Culture
This is a genuine people leadership role.
You’ll:
- Lead, motivate and support the reception team.
- Set clear expectations around performance and patient care.
- Coach team members and provide regular feedback.
- Support training and onboarding.
- Recognise great performance and celebrate success.
- Address performance and service issues promptly and constructively.
- Build a positive, accountable and high-performing team.
We’re looking for someone who is warm and approachable but confident enough to lead, challenge and hold people accountable.
4. Complaints & Service Recovery
When things don’t go perfectly, you’ll take ownership.
You’ll handle patient concerns and complaints with empathy, professionalism and confidence, finding appropriate solutions while identifying opportunities to prevent problems recurring.
5. Operational & Commercial Excellence
You’ll also take ownership of the smooth and efficient running of reception, including:
- Managing and optimising appointment books.
- Maximising diary utilisation.
- Supporting patient flow and clinician capacity.
- Coordinating appointments and treatment plans.
- Handling complex patient queries.
- Processing payments and maintaining accurate records.
- Supporting practice policies, procedures and compliance.
- Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and patient experience.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for an experienced people leader, not simply an experienced receptionist.
You should have previous experience of leading a team in a customer-facing environment, with responsibility for standards, performance and customer experience.
You’ll ideally have experience in one or more of the following:
- Retail management
- Healthcare management
- Hospitality management
- Corporate/customer service environments
- Premium or luxury customer service
- Front-of-house leadership
- Another high-volume, customer-focused environment
You’ll be someone who:
- Has led a team and enjoys developing people.
- Sets high standards and is comfortable holding others accountable.
- Understands exceptional customer service and knows how to create it consistently.
- Is commercially aware and understands performance, targets and operational efficiency.
- Can manage difficult conversations confidently and professionally.
- Is highly organised and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
- Is emotionally intelligent and builds strong relationships.
- Takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do.
- Looks for ways to improve processes, service and team performance.
- Leads from the front and is willing to be hands-on.
Dental experience...
Previous dental experience is welcome but not essential.
What is essential is strong people leadership and customer service experience.
Full training and support will be provided to help you understand the dental environment.
What success looks like
Within your first 6–12 months, we want you to have:
- Built a confident, motivated and accountable reception team.
- Established consistently high standards of patient service.
- Improved the patient journey and removed unnecessary friction.
- Strengthened our approach to complaints and service recovery.
- Improved consistency across reception processes.
- Developed strong relationships with the clinical team.
- Become the person who sets the standard for front-of-house experience at Billericay Dental Care.
