About Us: Newlay Asphalt Ltd is a leading name in the asphalt industry, supplying high-quality materials from our plants in Dewsbury and Brandesburton. With a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction, we are looking for a proactive and highly organised Transport Planner to join our growing team.
The Role: As a Transport Planner, you will play a key role in coordinating and optimising the daily movement of our HGV fleet, ensuring asphalt deliveries are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.Based at our Head Office in Brandesburton, you will be responsible for planning deliveries for both the Brandesburton and Dewsbury plants. Working closely with our sales, production, and transport teams, you will also liaise directly with customers to provide accurate delivery updates and maintain excellent service levels.This is a fast-paced and reactive role that requires strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to problem-solve under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule daily asphalt deliveries across both plants
- Coordinate delivery locations to maximise efficiency and minimise downtime
- Liaise with drivers, site teams, customers, and production staff
- Work alongside the Transport Manager to monitor vehicle availability and driver compliance
- Respond quickly to schedule changes, customer requirements, and operational issues
- Ensure transport operations comply with legal, safety, and company requirements
- Maintain clear communication with customers regarding delivery timings and updates
- Support continuous improvement within transport operations
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in transport planning, logistics, or haulage coordination
- Experience within the asphalt, aggregates, construction, or related industries is desirable
- Strong organisational and multitasking skills
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Good geographical knowledge and route planning capability
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and transport planning systems
- Understanding of driver hours and transport compliance regulations is advantageous
