The main duty of this role is to provide administration support to the Outpatient clinics at St James University Hospital. The administration support includes computer-based work using our Patient Administration System and providing front of house reception support, delivering a high standard of patient care. Our Clerical Officer team ensure all paperwork and systems are prepared in advance of Outpatient appointments. They also provide receptionist support across a number of reception areas; book patient appointments in person and by telephone; and ensure all post clinic actions are completely timely.
The main attributes we are looking for include being motivated, reliable, trustworthy, flexible, and keen to learn. We are also seeking somebody who is a good team player, with the ability to work on their own initiative. We are proud of the diversity within our teams, welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are committed to recruiting inclusively.
In Outpatient Administration, we place staff health and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do and actively promote flexibility in the workplace. We are committed to supporting all staff to succeed in their roles, including offering and supporting reasonable adjustments where needed. We value and recognise the power of the staff voice and encourage colleagues to act as champions through a range of staff networks, including Disability, LGBT+ and BME networks. We also adopt inclusive recruitment processes and as part of this, we share interview questions with all shortlisted candidates the day before interview. We believe this approach creates a level playing field, helps reduce stress, and enables candidates to fully understand what we are looking for.
Our team is unique because we support Outpatient services across several locations and work in partnership with a wide range of Clinical Service Units. This provides a varied working environment, opportunities to develop a wide skill set, and valuable exposure to different specialties, services and different ways of working across the Trust. It is an exciting time within the Outpatient Administration team as we introduce more digital ways of working and support the Trust’s commitment to sustainability by reducing paper use. If you are passionate about making a difference and want to deliver patient-centred care whilst working within a diverse and supportive team this could be the role for you!
