We are looking for an experienced and reliable General Handyman / Property Maintenance Operative to assist with the ongoing maintenance, repair and improvement of our residential and commercial properties across Cardiff.
The role offers flexible working hours and may suit someone who wants to work three full days per week or spread the hours across four or five shorter days. The schedule can be agreed to suit both the successful candidate and the requirements of the properties.
Main Responsibilities
The role will involve a varied range of general property maintenance and construction-related tasks, including:
- General building maintenance and repairs
- Interior and exterior painting and decorating
- Basic plumbing repairs, such as replacing taps, fixing minor leaks and clearing blockages
- Basic electrical tasks, such as replacing light fittings, switches and sockets, where appropriately qualified and competent
- Repairing doors, locks, handles, cupboards and general fixtures
- Basic carpentry and joinery work
- Landscaping, gardening and general external maintenance
- Minor plastering, filling and making good
- Preparing properties between tenancies
- Identifying maintenance issues and reporting any work requiring a specialist contractor
- Collecting materials and attending different properties as required
- Keeping work areas clean, safe and tidy
Experience and Skills Required
The successful candidate should have:
- A minimum of five years’ experience in a building trade, construction, property maintenance, caretaking or a similar handyman role
- A good general understanding of building maintenance and repairs
- Practical experience of painting, basic plumbing, basic electrics and landscaping
- The ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- A reliable, professional and trustworthy approach
- Good communication skills
- The ability to complete work to a good standard without constant supervision
Driving Requirements
A full UK driving licence and access to your own suitable vehicle are essential due to the nature of the role and the need to travel between properties.
Having your own basic tools would be helpful but is not essential, as additional tools and specialist equipment can be provided where required.
Working Hours
The position is for approximately 24 hours per week. The hours are flexible and could be worked as:
- Three full working days per week; or
- Four or five shorter working days per week.
Some flexibility may occasionally be required depending on maintenance priorities and access arrangements.
Pay
The rate of pay is £15.00 per hour.
