Group HR Manager – Nelson Hotels & Inns
Salary: £45,000–£50,000 per annum
Hours: Full‑time, Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 5pm.
Location: Head Office, based at The Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa, with occasional travel across all five company sites (The Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa, The Pheasant Inn, The Bears Paw, The Fishpool Inn & The Manor Greasby). Please note, this is a full time office based role.
Nelson Hotels & Inns is a well‑established, family‑owned hospitality group operating five high‑quality and award winning sites across Cheshire & the Wirral. We are seeking an experienced and professional Group HR Manager to lead the HR function and deliver a consistent, compliant and effective people strategy across the business.
This senior role has full responsibility for the entire employee lifecycle across all five sites. The successful candidate will oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, development, engagement, employee relations, and offboarding, ensuring consistent, compliant and high‑quality HR practice throughout the organisation.
This is a senior, multi‑site role requiring a confident HR professional with strong employment law knowledge, excellent judgement, and the ability to support managers in a fast‑paced operational environment.
About the Role
The Group HR Manager will oversee all HR activity across the organisation, ensuring best‑practice standards, legal compliance and a positive employee experience. The role provides strategic direction while maintaining hands‑on involvement in day‑to‑day HR operations and employee relations.

Key Responsibilities
Hands‑On HR Operations
- Operational HR delivery — Provide day‑to‑day HR support across all sites, working closely with managers and the HR Officer
- Manage recruitment, onboarding, induction, performance processes, absence management, reward and offboarding
- Ensure consistent HR documentation, processes and standards across the group
- Maintain oversight of contracts, terms and personnel records
- Work closely with the Payroll Department to ensure accurate information flow, correct employee data, and timely resolution of payroll‑related queries
- Hold a strong understanding of payroll processes, statutory requirements and deadlines, supporting payroll colleagues with HR‑related inputs and checks
Employee Relations & Case Management
- Lead and manage disciplinary, grievance, capability and wellbeing cases
- Conduct investigations and support formal hearings
- Coach managers on practical people management and HR procedures
- Ensure all cases are handled fairly, consistently and in line with employment legislation
Compliance, Policy & Governance
- Ensure full compliance with employment law, right‑to‑work checks, GDPR and record‑keeping requirements
- Maintain and update HR policies and procedures
- Liaise with external advisors and legal representatives when required
Learning, Development & Talent
- Support managers with training needs, skills gaps and development planning
- Assist with delivering practical learning and development initiatives across sites
Multi‑Site Operational Support
- Provide visible, hands‑on HR support across all five locations
- Build strong working relationships with managers and teams
- Travel between sites when required to support operational needs
Team Leadership
- Work alongside and provide guidance to the HR Officer, ensuring smooth day‑to‑day HR operations
- Support the HR Officer’s development and workload management
About You
We are looking for a HR professional who is:
- A credible advisor to senior managers
- Proven, hands‑on experience in a multi‑site HR role
- Relevant human resources qualification e.g. CIPD Lvl 5/7
- Pragmatic, commercially minded and solutions‑focused
- Resilient, calm and professional in a fast‑paced environment
- Highly confidential, ethical and consistent
- Collaborative, approachable and confident in multi‑site leadership
Hospitality Experience: Experience within the hospitality sector would be highly advantageous for this role. The successful candidate will be supporting fast‑paced operational teams across multiple hotel and restaurant environments, and an understanding of hospitality structures, service demands, and workforce challenges would strengthen their ability to provide effective HR leadership across all five sites.
