Registered Mental Health Nurse – Prison Healthcare (Band 6)

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00–18:00 (varied shifts 09:00–17:00 / 08:00–18:00)
Sanctuary Personnel are currently recruiting for a Prison Cleared Registered Mental Health Nurse to join a specialist inclusion and mental health team working across prison healthcare services in Staffordshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Band 6 Mental Health Nurse to work within a challenging but highly rewarding criminal justice environment, delivering high-quality mental health interventions to service users with complex needs.
The role involves working within a multidisciplinary and multi-agency framework to deliver assessment, care planning, and ongoing therapeutic interventions to individuals experiencing a range of mental health difficulties within secure settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a complex caseload of service users within a prison mental health service
- Undertake comprehensive mental health assessments and develop individualised care plans
- Deliver evidence-based interventions across primary, secondary, and wellbeing mental health needs
- Work within the Care Programme Approach (CPA) framework to coordinate ongoing care
- Provide mental health support and advice to prison healthcare teams and partner agencies
- Liaise effectively with multidisciplinary teams including GPs, probation, substance misuse services, and prison staff
- Support safe discharge planning and continuity of care into community services
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with NMC standards and organisational policies
- Ensure compliance with Mental Health Act legislation and safeguarding procedures
- Contribute to clinical supervision, service development, and professional training activities
Applicant Requirements:
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with valid NMC registration
- Prison clearance
- Significant post-qualification experience in mental health services
- Strong knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and CPA framework
- Experience working with complex and high-risk service users
- Excellent communication, assessment, and caseload management skills
- Ability to work autonomously within a secure and sometimes challenging environment
