Support Worker – Bristol (BS16)
£13.50 per hour + £50.00 Sleep-In Rate
Safehands Recruitment are recruiting dedicated and compassionate Support Workers to join a new care package starting on 18th July in Bristol (BS16).
This is an opportunity to support a young man with complex care needs to live a fulfilling life at home and within his local community. We are looking for reliable, patient and person-centred individuals who can provide high-quality support and promote independence, dignity and wellbeing.
Shift Pattern
Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays
- 15-hour day shift plus sleep-in
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
- 7-hour day shift plus sleep-in
Essential Requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to drive a manual vehicle
- Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and complex care needs
- Experience with moving and handling
- Experience supporting individuals with epilepsy
- Medication administration experience
- PEG feeding experience (PEG only, not NG feeding)
About the Role
You will be supporting a young man with a severe learning disability and complex health needs, including epilepsy, mobility difficulties and PEG feeding requirements. He is non-verbal and uses alternative methods of communication, so staff must be patient, observant and able to support communication in a person-centred way.
The role includes:
- Supporting with daily living activities and personal care
- PEG feeding, medication administration and associated record keeping
- Supporting safe mobility and wheelchair use
- Supporting access to community activities, appointments and outings
- Providing support to attend church each weekend
- Monitoring wellbeing and responding appropriately to health needs, including epilepsy management
- Completing accurate care documentation
About the Person You Will Support
The individual enjoys spending time outdoors, particularly in nature, and benefits from regular community access. He enjoys watching television, sensory activities, books and DVDs, and spending time in his garden. He responds well when given clear explanations about what is happening and what support is required.
He can become frustrated at times and may push staff away or throw items when unhappy, so staff should be calm, proactive and able to recognise and respond to his needs appropriately.
Additional Information
The family home is currently undergoing adaptation work to improve accessibility, meaning staff will initially be working in an environment where building work is ongoing. Flexibility and professionalism will be important during this transition period.
