We're looking for a Scheme Project Manager to join the Wessex Infrastructure Change Team on a 12-month fixed-term opportunity with the potential to become permanent. Our team delivers a diverse portfolio of projects that help improve how the business operates, from people and competence initiatives through to process improvements, organisational change and business transformation activity.
Working as part of a collaborative team, you'll help shape and deliver projects from concept through to implementation, ensuring they are completed safely, effectively and in line with business objectives. You'll play an important role in helping Wessex Infrastructure continue to evolve and improve, delivering meaningful change that supports our people and the wider organisation.
What you'll be doing
As a Scheme Project Manager, you'll be responsible for:
Delivering meaningful change
- Lead projects from concept through to implementation, helping to deliver improvements that support the business, our people and our customers.
- Work across a diverse portfolio of projects, ranging from organisational and process improvements to initiatives that strengthen capability, competence and business performance.
- Help identify opportunities for improvement and develop practical solutions to complex business challenges.
Working with people
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation, bringing together different perspectives to achieve successful outcomes.
- Facilitate collaboration between operational, technical and corporate teams to support project delivery and decision-making.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, ensuring stakeholders are kept informed of progress, risks and key decisions.
Managing successful delivery
- Manage projects safely and effectively through all stages of the project lifecycle, ensuring delivery to agreed scope, budget and timescales.
- Monitor and manage project risks, opportunities and change controls, taking proactive action where required.
- Produce clear project reporting and performance information to support effective governance and informed decision-making.
- Manage project budgets and resources responsibly, ensuring value for money and effective use of available funding.
Supporting continuous improvement
- Promote best practice in project management and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
- Capture and share lessons learned to help improve future project delivery across the wider team.
- Maintain compliance with Network Rail standards, governance requirements and the Investment Competence Framework.
Essential
- Experience of delivering projects, workstreams, or business change initiatives in a complex organisational environment.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across different teams and levels of an organisation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly to a range of audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse information, identify options and support informed decision-making.
- Ability to plan, organise and prioritise competing activities to achieve successful outcomes.
- Experience of managing risks, issues and project delivery activities.
- A collaborative approach, with a willingness to challenge constructively and support continuous improvement.
Desirable
- Experience working within a project management environment or recognised project management methodology.
- Knowledge of Network Rail project governance and delivery frameworks.
- Knowledge of Oracle Projects or similar project management and financial systems.
- Membership of, or working towards membership of, a recognised professional body such as APM.
- Degree, HNC/HND, project management qualification, or equivalent learning through professional experience.
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
