Senior Platform Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to join our growing technology team in London. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled engineering professional to design, build, and optimize secure, scalable, and resilient platform solutions that support enterprise applications and cloud-native services.
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will collaborate with software engineers, DevOps specialists, cloud architects, cybersecurity teams, and business stakeholders to develop modern platform capabilities that accelerate software delivery, improve operational efficiency, and enhance system reliability. You will play a key role in infrastructure automation, platform modernization, container orchestration, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring platforms meet performance, security, and compliance standards.
The successful candidate will possess strong expertise in cloud platforms, automation, infrastructure engineering, and DevOps practices, along with excellent technical leadership and problem-solving abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable platform infrastructure supporting cloud-native and enterprise applications.
- Build and manage Kubernetes platforms, container orchestration environments, and cloud infrastructure services.
- Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Bicep, AWS CloudFormation, or similar technologies.
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines that enable reliable and automated software delivery.
- Collaborate with software engineering teams to improve developer experience, deployment processes, and platform reliability.
- Implement platform monitoring, logging, observability, and alerting solutions to ensure high availability.
- Optimize platform performance, scalability, resilience, and operational efficiency across cloud environments.
- Implement security controls, identity management, secrets management, and compliance best practices throughout the platform.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, patching, and operational workflows using scripting and automation tools.
- Support cloud migration, application modernization, and platform transformation initiatives.
- Troubleshoot complex platform and infrastructure issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term improvements.
- Develop technical documentation, platform standards, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering excellence through knowledge sharing and technical leadership.
- Evaluate emerging platform technologies and recommend innovative solutions that improve business agility and operational effectiveness.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Significant experience in platform engineering, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or site reliability engineering within enterprise environments.
- Strong expertise with Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, and container orchestration technologies.
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Bicep, AWS CloudFormation, ARM Templates, or similar tools.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD platforms including Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or CircleCI.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, or Go for automation and platform management.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Splunk, ELK Stack, Azure Monitor, or Amazon CloudWatch.
- Strong understanding of Linux system administration, networking, cloud security, identity and access management, and infrastructure resilience.
- Familiarity with Git, version control practices, Agile methodologies, and DevOps principles.
- Excellent analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, or Terraform Associate are highly desirable.
- Experience supporting high-availability, mission-critical production environments is advantageous.
