Adult Social Care at Gateshead Council supports adults with care and support needs to live safe, independent and thriving lives. The service provides statutory assessments, safeguarding, prevention, and a wide range of community-based support in line with the Care Act 2014. Working in a strengths-based way, Adult Social Care focuses on wellbeing, independence and personalised outcomes, helping people to access the right support at the right time, whether through assessment and planning, enablement services, technology-enabled care, or wider community resources.

We are advertising for an Assessing Officer to join our Safeguarding Adults Team, in the triage function. As part of the Safeguarding Team, you will be working with a Team Manager, Safeguarding Coordinators, Senior Practitioners, Social Workers and Assessing Officers. Safeguarding means protecting an adult's right to live safe, free from abuse and neglect. It is about people and organisations working together to prevent and stop both the risks and experience of abuse or neglect. At the same time we promote the wellbeing of adults. When deciding on what to do, it's important to consider their opinions, desires, emotions, and beliefs.

In this rewarding role, you’ll work closely with adults and their caregivers across a variety of settings; listening, understanding and identifying the support needed to help people achieve their goals. What you'll get to do:

Carry out strengthsbased assessments with adults and carers to identify eligible needs under the Care Act 2014, across community, hospital, and residential settings.
Complete additional assessments, such as mental capacity, best interests, and risk assessments, under the guidance of your Line Manager and in accordance with relevant legislation.
Manage an active and varied caseload with regular supervision and support.
Review existing care plans to ensure ongoing eligibility and that support remains appropriate and effective.
Contribute to duty functions, including responding to urgent referrals when required.
Identify and coordinate care packages that meet assessed needs while ensuring responsible use of resources, including promoting Direct Payments and SelfDirected Support.
Work closely with partner agencies and professionals to deliver joinedup support.
Take part in mandatory and rolespecific training to develop your skills.

What you'll bring:

Knowledge of key legislation, including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, with the ability to interpret and apply it in practice.
Experience of working with adults (and carers) with multiple and complex needs, physical disabilities and/or mental health needs.
Experience of undertaking assessments, applying relevant criteria and where necessary identifying appropriate services to meet eligible needs.
Strong organisational and workloadmanagement skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively and handle competing demands.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, recognising when to seek support or guidance.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including confidence using IT systems.
Commitment to professional development, including willingness to undertake relevant training and work towards a qualification for the Assessing Officer role.
Full UK driving licence with access to transport (or other suitable mobility support).

If successful, this role requires a DBS and you will have to apply for an enhanced Disclosure.
