Are you an experienced transport professional who enjoys solving problems, coordinating busy operations and taking ownership of service performance?
We are recruiting an experienced Senior Traffic Planner to join our National Hub in Tipton and play a key role in the planning and coordination of our nationwide transport operation.
THE ROLE
- Senior Traffic Planner
- Location: Tipton National Hub
- Monday to Friday
- Start time: 11:00
- Contracted hours: 48 hours per week
- Pay: £16.51 per hour
- Weekly pay: £792.48
- Annual salary: £41,208.96
- Paid weekly every Thursday
- Permanent, full-time position
This is a fast-paced, hands-on role in which your decisions will directly influence vehicle utilisation, service performance and the movement of freight throughout our national network.
Reporting to the Night Operations Manager, you will plan and coordinate daily transport operations, ensuring the effective use of vehicles, drivers and operational resources.
You will also provide day-to-day support and guidance to the Planning Team, helping resolve operational challenges while maintaining high standards of customer service, safety and transport compliance.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan routes and workloads to maximise vehicle and driver utilisation
- Coordinate deliveries and collections to achieve customer requirements and operational KPIs
- Lead, guide and support the Planning Team throughout the shift
- Monitor vehicle progress and make real-time adjustments to transport plans when required
- Identify potential service failures and take action before they affect customers
- Investigate operational failures, identify root causes and support the implementation of corrective actions
- Work closely with depots, drivers, customers and the wider Traffic Office
- Maintain accurate transport documentation and Transport Management System records
- Produce operational reports, KPIs and management information as required
- Support effective driver briefings and debriefings
- Maintain compliance with Operator Licence requirements, Drivers’ Hours and the Working Time Directive
- Follow all applicable FORS, health and safety, quality and Company procedures
- Escalate significant operational concerns promptly to the Night Operations Manager
- Support continuous improvement across customer service, efficiency, utilisation and cost performance
- Complete any other reasonable duties requested by the management team

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a confident, experienced and proactive transport professional who:
- Has previous transport planning, logistics or fleet operations experience
- Has a strong working knowledge of the UK road network
- Is experienced in using Transport Management Systems
- Understands Drivers’ Hours, the Working Time Directive and transport compliance requirements
- Has strong organisational and communication skills
- Can manage competing priorities within a fast-paced transport operation
- Can solve problems and make effective decisions under pressure
- Takes ownership of operational performance and service delivery
- Communicates effectively with drivers, depots, customers and colleagues
- Maintains accurate documentation and computerised records
- Has a proactive and customer-focused approach
- Works collaboratively as part of a wider operational team
- Has previous supervisory or team leadership experience, although this would be advantageous rather than essential
