Job Description
To support the Registered Manager in the effective day-to-day leadership and management of the home. This role will help ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care and support for individuals with complex mental health needs. Significant experience in supporting people with mental health support needs, along with experience in learning disabilities, autism, and behaviours of concern will be essential for the role.
This is a female only position.
Using a trauma informed approach, the Deputy Manager will champion Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Active Support, and person-centred approaches to improve quality of life. You will support the home to maximise independence, reduce restrictive practices, and ensure individuals are supported to achieve meaningful outcomes. The successful candidate will work regularly alongside their colleagues providing leadership, coaching, and guidance, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, organisational policies, and best practice guidance.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Support the Registered Manager with the day-to-day operation of the service.
- Lead by example and promote a positive, inclusive, and values-based culture.
- Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and mentoring to support staff.
- Act as the manager on duty in the absence of the Registered Manager.
- Support recruitment, induction, probation reviews, and performance management processes.
- Promote effective teamwork, communication, and collaborative working practices.
- Facilitate team meetings, reflective practice sessions, and learning reviews.
- Participate in the on-call rota as required.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
- Champion the implementation of Positive Behaviour Support across the service.
- Support the completion and review of functional assessments and PBS plans.
- Analyse behavioural data and incident reports to identify patterns, triggers, and opportunities for proactive intervention.
- Coach staff to understand behaviour as communication and implement proactive strategies consistently.
- Support the reduction of restrictive practices and promote least restrictive approaches.
- Monitor the effectiveness of PBS interventions and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
Person-Centred Care and Support
- Ensure support is delivered in accordance with individual care plans, PBS plans, risk assessments, and communication profiles.
- Promote choice, control, independence, dignity, and respect.
- Support individuals to access meaningful activities, relationships, education, employment opportunities, and community participation.
- Ensure individuals are supported in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and relevant legislation.
- Promote positive risk-taking and outcome-focused support.
Clinical and Safeguarding Responsibilities
- Ensure safeguarding concerns are identified, reported, and managed appropriately.
- Support staff to recognise and respond to mental health needs and behavioural distress.
- Ensure safe administration and management of medication.
- Monitor and review accidents, incidents, near misses, and safeguarding concerns.
- Contribute to investigations, audits, and action plans where required.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Support the service to meet and exceed Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards.
- Participate in audits relating to care plans, medication, health and safety, safeguarding, and PBS.
- Ensure records are accurate, person-centred, and completed in a timely manner.
- Support continuous improvement through service development initiatives and action planning.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Positive Behaviour Support qualification or significant PBS experience.
- Experience supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, and/or complex mental health needs in a supervisory role.
Desirable Qualifications
· PBS qualification level 3 or above.
· Health and social care qualification level 3 or above.
* £1000 Bonus: £500 payable on successful completion of probation and £500 after 1 year of service
