Are you a technical leader who thrives when the stakes are at their highest? Our client, a high growth Fintech scale up, is looking for a Strategic Platform Director to operate as a high seniority "Player Manager." This is not a role for someone who wants to sit in meetings all day; it is for a 10/10 owner who will be the technical heartbeat of a platform that has scaled from £33 million to £2.5 billion in customer deposits in just one year.
In this position, you are the bridge between complex regulatory requirements and high quality engineering execution. As the firm transitions to "Enhanced" status with the FCA, you will take full ownership of operational resilience, ensuring that critical systems remain healthy and that customers can always access their funds. You will have the autonomy to execute your duties as you see fit, the authority to lead the "Operational Resilience Squad," and a direct line to the executive level to shape the company’s future.
The Technical Core
This is a role for a deep infrastructure expert. You will be driving innovation and stability across a dual cloud environment, with a primary focus on the savings platform:
- Azure (Primary): You must be "really deep" here, managing a microservices architecture including Container Apps, Service Bus, Cosmos DB, and Postgres.
- AWS (Secondary): Overseeing a highly resilient mortgage platform running on ECS and RDS.
- Future Tech: Architecting the framework for AI agents and managing PII (Personally Identifiable Information) as the firm automates its workflows.
What you will be doing
- Operational Resilience: Defining tolerances for critical systems and ensuring uptime and disaster recovery strategies are "gold standard" for the economy.
- Strategic Influence: Anticipating infrastructure hurdles before they manifest and translating complex technical challenges for non specialist stakeholders.
- Hands-on: Remaining "at the coal face," troubleshooting complex issues like Azure service bus failovers that others have struggled to resolve.
- Scaling the Mission: Helping the organization solve the UK "affordability gap" by productionizing a platform that helps thousands buy their first homes.
The "You" they are looking for
- A 10/10 Owner: You don’t wait for instructions; you identify risks early, own the resolution, and keep the platform moving forward.
- A Pragmatic Leader: You likely find corporate environments too slow and prefer a start up or scale up pace where action is prioritized over policy writing.
- A Player Manager: You are a leader by example who is just as comfortable defining a five year strategy as you are writing code or configuring event buses.
- A Problem Hunter: You have the confidence to be vocal in executive meetings and the technical track record to back up your opinions.
The Environment
Joining this team means being part of a mission driven culture where the motto is "If you don’t like it, change it". It offers the excitement of a high growth scale up with the stability of a firm that has a material effect on the UK economy. The culture is flat, low ego, and celebratory, featuring quarterly socials at London penthouses and a company wide trip to Portugal this November.
The interview process is fast and respectful of your time, consisting of two conversational stages with no take home tasks.
