Within University IT, the student support team will be available during enrolment to assist students with setting up IT services such as onboarding devices to Eduroam and setting up multi-factor authentication (MFA). The team will be located across campus to offer face-to-face advice to students, as well as responding to email queries where needed.
In this role you will provide customer support, signpost self-help instructions and, where needed, offer assistance for students to set up their initial IT services.
Hours and duration
The hours of work will be on a rota basis between 9am and 6pm, Monday to Friday (20 hours per week) for 6 weeks, commencing 21 September 2026 and ending 30 October 2026. In addition, weekend work will be required on 26 and 27 September 2026. Training will be provided on 22 September 2026.
Four successful applicants will have the opportunity to extend their contracts to cover the full academic year (commencing 2 November 2026) at 15 hours per week, subject to performance and availability.

As part of the enrolment team, you will:
- Provide professional, friendly and customer-focused support, acting as a first point of contact for students within Cardiff University IT.
- Contribute to the resolution of student IT setup queries, using training and documented procedures to guide you.
- Carry out assigned tasks and procedures effectively and efficiently to agreed levels of service.
- Work effectively as part of a team to ensure high-quality services are provided according to customer needs.
- Perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which are consistent with the role.
- Adhere to and promote the University IT Customer Care Policy.
- Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and of other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, EC directives and the University's Safety, Health and Environment Policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in respect of equality and diversity, data protection, copyright and licensing, security, financial and other University policies, procedures and codes as appropriate.
Person specification
- Ability to deal with customers and other employees in a professional manner and to the highest standards, treating people with dignity, courtesy and respect at all times.
- Ability to clearly and accurately record information to pass on to others.
- Ability to work as an effective team member.
- Prior experience in IT support, or education in an IT-related field, is beneficial but not required for this role.
This is a Jobshop appointment, open to current Cardiff University students. The rate of pay is £13.45 per hour plus 12.07% holiday pay.
