About the Role
We're looking for a highly organised and proactive Administrative Assistant to support our small, friendly team.
This is more than a traditional administration role. As well as keeping day-to-day operations running smoothly, you'll be a part of supporting projects, events and initiatives that benefit Kendal's businesses and contribute to improving the town. It's an opportunity to be part of work that has a genuine impact on the local community while enjoying the flexibility of an independent contractor position.
No two weeks are the same, so we're looking for someone who enjoys variety, takes ownership of their work, and can confidently manage multiple priorities.
Hybrid working arrangement – This role offers a blend of remote and office-based working. Successful applicants will be expected to spend a proportion of their working time in our Kendal town centre office, as we operate an open office where members can visit us in person.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day administrative support across the organisation.
- Maintain accurate records and data using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, CRM systems and Xero.
- Support the Bid Manager with diary management, correspondence, levy engagement and general administration.
- Answer telephone calls and respond to email enquiries in a professional, friendly and timely manner.
- Prepare documents, reports and correspondence.
- Attend monthly Board meetings and produce clear, accurate minutes.
- Process invoices, monitor expenses and assist with basic bookkeeping and budgeting using Xero.
- Help coordinate projects, meetings and local events, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
- Maintain organised filing systems and databases to support the wider team.
About You
You'll be someone who enjoys being organised, communicating with people and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
You'll ideally have:
- Previous experience in an administrative or office support role.
- Excellent organisational skills and great attention to detail.
- Experience using Xero for bookkeeping or financial administration.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and CRM systems.
- Excellent communication skills, with confidence speaking on the phone and writing professional emails.
- The ability to prioritise work, manage your own time and work independently.
- A positive, proactive approach and a willingness to get involved in a variety of tasks.
- A typing speed of around 50 words per minute would be an advantage but is not essential.
What We Offer
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Hybrid working with a Kendal town centre office base.
- The opportunity to support local businesses and contribute to projects and events that make a positive difference to Kendal.
- A varied role where your organisational skills will have a real impact.
If you're organised with excellent communication skills, and you're looking for a flexible role where your work contributes to the local community, we'd love to hear from you.
