We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Transport Manager to oversee and optimise our logistics operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in transportation management, supply chain processes, and warehouse operations. This role offers an excellent opportunity to lead a dynamic team, implement process improvements, and ensure the efficient movement of goods across various channels. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing transportation systems, supervising staff, and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Duties
- Oversee daily transportation activities, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of goods.
- Manage and optimise logistics processes using Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and ERP systems such as AS400.
- Supervise a team of logistics personnel, including drivers, warehouse staff, and administrative support.
- Coordinate with third-party logistics providers (3PL) to streamline operations and improve service levels.
- Monitor profit & loss statements related to transportation operations, identifying areas for cost reduction and efficiency gains.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives aimed at process optimisation within supply chain and warehouse functions.
- Oversee shipping & receiving activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
- Supervise the use of equipment such as forklifts, ensuring safe operation in accordance with health & safety standards.
- Analyse data to identify opportunities for process improvement and operational excellence.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, including proper handling of hazardous materials when applicable.
Skills
- Proven experience in supervising logistics or transportation teams with strong leadership capabilities.
- Extensive knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS), warehouse management systems (WMS), and ERP platforms like AS400.
- Strong understanding of supply chain management, including shipping & receiving procedures.
- Experience working with 3PL providers and implementing process improvements within logistics operations.
- Familiarity with forklift operation and warehouse experience is highly desirable.
- Ability to analyse profit & loss data to inform strategic decisions.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma is advantageous.
- Proficiency in using process optimisation tools and data analysis for operational enhancements.
