We are currently recruiting experienced Civils & Groundworks Operatives to join our growing field operations team. Candidates who are available to start from 17 July are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
About the Role
Bluegrid Utilities is seeking experienced and motivated Civils & Groundworks Operatives to support water utility infrastructure projects across the UK.
The successful candidate will be responsible for excavation, trenching, reinstatement, and associated groundworks required for smart water meter installation and maintenance works. You will play a key role in delivering projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards while working alongside supervisors, project coordinators, and field teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out excavation, trenching, and general groundworks.
- Support smart water meter installation and external meter works.
- Locate, expose, and safely access underground utility assets.
- Complete reinstatement works following excavations.
- Operate hand tools, breakers, compactors, and other equipment safely.
- Assist with pipework, chambers, boundary boxes, and other service-related works.
- Follow RAMS, permit requirements, and company health & safety procedures.
- Establish and maintain safe working areas using barriers, cones, and signage.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional working environment.
- Report defects, delays, hazards, service strikes, near misses, and safety concerns promptly.
- Complete job records, site photographs, and daily reports accurately.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, project coordinators, water meter technicians, and reinstatement teams.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in civils, groundworks, utilities, drainage, reinstatement, or construction.
- Good understanding of excavation techniques and safe site working practices.
- Strong work ethic with a reliable and professional attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and time management skills.
- Willingness to travel to different project locations.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Qualifications
- CSCS Card.
- NRSWA Operative Qualification.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- CAT & Genny Training.
- Manual Handling Training.
- Emergency First Aid at Work.
- CPCS or NPORS Plant Tickets.
- Previous experience within the water utilities sector.
