We are a top 100 legal firm seeking a dedicated, proactive and self-motivated Legal Assistant / Paralegal to provide support to our busy Dispute Resolution Group.
About Us
We work for a mixture of commercial, not-for-profit and private clients on a broad range of contentious matters. Our clients include charities, financial and professional service providers, high net worth individuals, LLP’s, manufacturers, multinationals, partnerships, property developers, public organisations, regulators and retailers. We have a particular focus on sports broadcast and telecommunication, construction, regulatory and professional liability disputes, public law, charity disputes, information technology and intellectual property and work closely with other departments in the firm including our Corporate & Commercial, Real Estate, Charities, Family and Private Client teams.
The successful candidate will be based in our Putney office but will also spend time with the team in our Bedford Row office. The firm also offers flexible working arrangements.
The role
As a Legal Assistant you will be responsible for a variety of tasks essential to supporting our clients. You will operate under the supervision and responsibility of a designated partner within the department. Key responsibilities will include:
- Working as a fee earner undertaking chargeable work with a personal time and fee target.
- Responding to initial client enquiries, setting up new clients / matters, preliminary legal research, drafting correspondence, taking meeting notes, bundling, managing filing tasks and liaising with and instructing Counsel.
- Effective use of our legal practice management software for document management and time logging.
- Assisting partners and solicitors within the department with administrative matters including the team’s marketing and business development activities, managing the team’s diaries, file management (including compliance) and assisting with billing and credit control.
Desired Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. In addition, you will have:
- At least 12 months’ experience in a fast-paced administrative and client-facing environment, including regular client interaction via email.
- The ability to manage workload autonomously, although the successful candidate will receive supervision and support from experienced solicitors.
- Strong written, verbal communication and time management skills and the ability to ensure accuracy and consistency in all documentation and communications, gathering information for cases, engaging with individuals effectively, drafting and responding to correspondence professionally. The role will involve the efficient and cost-effective management of multiple files in a fast-paced environment, working to strict deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and telephone skills, essential to demonstrate understanding of our clients’ needs / expectations and when communicating with colleagues.
- The desire to contribute to our success and to work as a team player.
- The ability to effectively manage and analyse material, including supporting documents provided by clients, files transferred from other firms, and correspondence and documentation from other entities.
- Exceptional computer literacy and IT skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other core applications and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to legal practice management software for document management, time logging, and related administrative tasks.
- The ability to self-support in terms of typing, administration and a desire to improve skills and provide value to clients, including through appropriate use of AI in accordance with the firm’s policies.
The candidate will be a graduate, ideally with some academic legal qualification, or some practical legal training.
