Prevention Officer G6 – Social Care (Non-Qualified)
Hours: 37 Hours Per Week, Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00
Contract: 12 Week Temporary Contract (with possibility of extension)
Location: County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, Glamorgan, CF10 4UW
Pay Rate: PAYE £16.62 per hour
We're recruiting a Prevention Officer to join Cardiff Youth Justice Service (YJS), a multi-agency partnership supporting children and young people aged 10–17 who have offended or are at risk of offending. This is a key frontline role, ideal for someone motivated, empathetic, and confident working with young people in challenging circumstances.
About the Role
As a Prevention Officer, you'll undertake assessments and deliver targeted interventions to reduce anti-social behaviour and offending among young people referred to the YJS Prevention Team. You'll play a vital role in building positive relationships and supporting restorative approaches.
What You'll Be Doing
- Undertaking assessments of young people referred to the YJS Prevention Team
- Developing and delivering interventions to address anti-social behaviour
- Applying restorative justice principles and approaches
- Building positive, supportive relationships with young people
- Working collaboratively with multi-agency partners
- Maintaining accurate records and reports
- Attending occasional evening and weekend sessions as required
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone proactive, resilient, and committed to supporting young people. You'll ideally have:
- Experience working with disaffected children and young people
- Understanding of the criminal justice system as it affects young people
- Knowledge of restorative justice and restorative approaches
- Experience undertaking assessments and planning interventions
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Full valid driving licence and access to an appropriately insured car
