Job Title
Senior Technical Accounting Manager
Job Description
IG Group is a FTSE 100 fintech operating across five continents, serving over 1.3m customers and handling billions of dollars in transactions – built on scale, trust, and proof. We didn't pivot to innovation; it's how we've always operated . What that means for the people who work here is real: genuinely complex problems to solve, the technology and resources to tackle them properly, and the kind of scope that's rare in established businesses.
The bar is high – bring a curious and forward-thinking mindset and we'll give you the platform to define what comes next.
Join us at IG – the future gets built here.
IG's rapid growth is placing new demands on the Group's accounting environment, from novel products to an evolving standards landscape. This role will act as the Group's technical accounting authority, ensuring the control environment keeps pace with the business while helping IG stay ahead of, rather than behind, changes in accounting standards.
This role reports directly to the Head of Group Reporting. The team owns the technical integrity of IG's financial reporting, working closely with Financial Operations and Financial Control, and partnering directly with IG's external auditors to ensure the Group's accounting positions are robust, well-documented and consistently applied across all subsidiaries. This role offers broad exposure across the business at a pivotal point in IG's growth.
Technical Accounting & Advisory
Act as the primary point of contact for complex accounting queries from across the Group, providing expert advice and reviewing positions formed by the business and local financial controllers.
Undertake ad-hoc technical analysis as required, getting into the detail of the underlying data where needed to reach a robust conclusion.
Partner with business teams to assess the accounting implications of new products and complex or non-standard transactions prior to launch.
Translate complex technical standards into clear, actionable advice for non-technical stakeholders across the business.
Financial Reporting & External Audit
Undertake a technical review of financial statements across the Group, including year-end and half-year reporting, focusing on accounting treatments and disclosures.
Input into and write sections of Audit Committee papers on key accounting judgements and estimates.
Lead the dialogue with external auditors on complex and judgemental areas, preparing papers that justify the Group's reported position.
Accounting Policy & Standards
Develop and maintain the Group's accounting policies and policy manual as a single source of truth, ensuring consistency across all subsidiaries.
Track upcoming standards and amendments, including IASB exposure drafts, and lead the Group's adoption of confirmed changes, including impact assessments and implementation plans.
Lead and own training across the Group, covering new standards and refreshers on existing topics, so teams understand the practical implications.
Cross-Group Collaboration
Build and maintain effective working relationships with Financial Operations, Financial Control, external auditors and advisors.
Work with local financial controllers across the Group's subsidiaries to understand local GAAP to UK-IAS differences, and assess the impact on Group consolidation.
Work with Financial Operations and Financial Control to implement new processes and products end-to-end, rather than handing off once a theoretical conclusion is reached.
Fully qualified ACA/ACCA accountant, with 3+ years' post-qualification experience in accounting policy, technical accounting, or Big 4 accounting advisory.
Strong, hands-on knowledge of UK-IAS, particularly in specialised, judgemental areas.
Comfortable getting into the detail of underlying data where needed, rather than operating at a purely theoretical level.
Experience reviewing financial statements from a technical accounting perspective, with a focus on the appropriateness of judgements and disclosures.
Proven ability to act as the go-to for technical accounting matters, driving alignment to the relevant standard among senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
Strong communication skills, able to turn technical standards into clear, practical guidance for non-finance stakeholders.
Experience seeing technical accounting conclusions through to practical implementation, not just handing off the theory.
Proven track record within a banking, CFD, spread betting or broader financial services institution, or a Big 4 banking/financial services advisory practice.
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across a team and leveraging external skill sets, rather than working in a silo.
Demonstrable adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced, tech-led, agile environment.
We think like a start-up, but we deliver like a FTSE 100 — so the bar is high, and we won't pretend otherwise. We work hybrid, which means three days in the office.
Own the ambiguity: You'll work through it without a playbook, and get real ownership over how you solve it — excellence isn't optional here, it's the standard you hold yourself to.
Question everything: Curiosity is our currency — question what exists, and you'll have the platform to define what comes next.
Deliver at pace: The pace is real, but so is the momentum: deliver at speed, unpick hard problems, and help define the future of fintech.
Raise the bar: Take your craft seriously, and you'll be surrounded by people who take theirs just as seriously — that's the legacy you're building on, and adding to.
