Experienced Carpenter – 1st & 2nd Fix
Location: Essex and surrounding areas

HMJ Contracts is looking for an experienced Carpenter to join our growing team.
The role will primarily involve domestic carpentry work on projects located close to our base and office, with occasional travel further afield when required.
We are looking for a reliable and capable carpenter with strong first and second fix experience, who can work independently, manage their responsibilities on site and consistently produce work to a high standard.
This is not a trainee or improver position. Applicants must have relevant carpentry experience and be confident completing work without constant supervision.
The Role
Typical duties will include:
- First fix carpentry
- Second fix carpentry
- Installing door linings, doors and ironmongery
- Fitting skirting boards and architraves
- Timber studwork and structural timber work
- Flooring and general finishing work
- Kitchen and joinery installations where required
- Repairs, alterations and general domestic carpentry
- Reading drawings and following job specifications
- Working professionally in occupied domestic properties
- Keeping work areas clean, safe and organised
- Uploading job updates, documents and site photographs through Buildertrend
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in first and second fix carpentry
- Strong domestic carpentry experience
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual and professional approach
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Comfortable using a mobile phone or app to receive job information and upload photographs
- Own tools for self-employed applicants
Relevant carpentry qualifications are desirable, although demonstrable experience and the quality of your work will also be considered.
Working Arrangements
Most work is located close to our base and office in Essex.
Our tradespeople will generally travel directly from home to site, although occasional visits to the office or suppliers may be required to collect materials, equipment or job information.
There may also be opportunities or requirements to travel further afield depending on the project.
