About Agora
Agora is an emerging digital platform for African social science students, created to improve access to verified opportunities, career guidance, and professional development resources.
We are looking for a reliable, proactive, and detail-oriented Virtual Assistant to support Agora’s day-to-day operations and help keep the platform organized and up to date.
Key Responsibilities
Opportunity Research & Verification
- Research fellowships, internships, scholarships, jobs, grants, conferences, competitions, research opportunities, and other relevant opportunities for African students.
- Verify opportunities using the official source before they are published.
- Confirm eligibility requirements, deadlines, application links, location, funding, and other relevant details.
- Monitor upcoming deadlines and identify opportunities that are closing soon.
- Flag expired, changed, or potentially inaccurate listings.
- Maintain an organized opportunity database.
Administrative & Operations Support
- Maintain Google Sheets, Google Docs, forms, and internal records.
- Track tasks, deadlines, applications, and ongoing activities.
- Organize information and maintain accurate documentation.
- Assist with preparing weekly operational reports.
- Support the founder with routine administrative tasks.
- Help document and improve recurring operational processes.
Student & Communication Support
- Respond to basic student enquiries through approved communication channels.
- Direct enquiries to the appropriate person when they require further assistance.
- Assist with WhatsApp and email communication.
- Help monitor feedback from students and identify recurring questions or issues.
Content & Social Media Support
- Assist in preparing and scheduling opportunity announcements.
- Help organize content for WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other platforms.
- Provide relevant opportunity information to the creative team for content production.
- Track basic content and engagement information when required.
Team Support
- Coordinate with the founder, web developer, and creative team.
- Follow established workflows and communicate progress clearly.
- Notify the team promptly when there are delays, errors, or issues.
- Take initiative in identifying tasks that need attention rather than waiting for constant instructions.
Requirements
- Must currently be an undergraduate student.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good research and information-verification skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Comfortable using Google Docs and Google Sheets.
- Familiarity with WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other digital platforms.
- Able to work independently in a remote environment.
- Reliable internet access and a suitable device for the role.
- Able to meet agreed deadlines and communicate consistently.
- Willingness to learn new digital tools and workflows.
Previous experience in virtual assistance, research, administration, social media management, student leadership, community management, or content coordination is an advantage but is not required.
