Step Into Teaching is working with a specialist SEND school in Derby to recruit a passionate and dedicated Graduate Teaching Assistant for September.
This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity for graduates considering careers in teaching, psychology, SEND, therapy, social work or youth work.
What Makes This Role Different?
You won't be expected to simply sit at the back of a classroom.
You'll become an important part of a team supporting pupils with a range of additional learning, communication, emotional and behavioural needs.
You'll help students build confidence, develop independence and discover that they are capable of achieving far more than they may initially believe.
Your Role
Working alongside teachers and specialist staff, you may:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support.
- Support pupils with SEND and additional needs.
- Encourage communication and social development.
- Help students engage with learning activities.
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Build trusting relationships with pupils.
- Adapt activities to suit individual learning styles.
- Encourage independence and life skills.
- Support students during lessons, activities and break times.
- Work closely with teachers, families and wider professionals.

Graduates from Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies, Sociology, Criminology, Health & Social Care, Sports, Art, English, Humanities and Social Sciences are particularly encouraged to apply.
However, all degree backgrounds are welcome.
Previous experience working with SEND is beneficial but not essential. We value experience gained through tutoring, childcare, mentoring, volunteering, care work, coaching or youth work.
