Kingston Barnes is recruiting for a Test Technician to join a market-leading engineering manufacturer in Bridgwater. Working alongside the Senior Test Engineer, you'll play a key role in validating new product designs by preparing, executing and analysing mechanical product tests to ensure they meet customer and quality requirements.
The Role
As a Test Technician, you'll be responsible for supporting the testing and validation of engineering products within a modern test laboratory. Your duties will include:
- Preparing test samples, fixtures and equipment in line with test specifications.
- Setting up and monitoring mechanical product tests, ensuring safe and accurate operation.
- Carrying out dynamic risk assessments and maintaining high health and safety standards.
- Collecting, recording and presenting test data for review by the Engineering team.
- Performing post-test inspections, dismantling test rigs and analysing results.
- Using metrology equipment to carry out measurements including surface roughness, hardness, roundness and runout.
- Building and assembling test rigs and mechanical fixtures.
- Maintaining an organised and efficient laboratory environment (5S).
- Supporting continuous improvement activities by identifying opportunities to improve testing methods and equipment.
- Working closely with Product Engineers and Test Engineers to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
About you:
- A mechanical engineering background through qualifications, apprenticeship or industry experience.
- Experience with mechanical assembly, testing or product validation.
- Confidence using hand tools, measuring equipment and metrology equipment.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience recording or analysing test data.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and continuously improve.
Desirable:
- Experience building test rigs or fixtures.
- Basic understanding of CAD.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or engineering test environment.

- Monday to Friday, 37-hour week
- Flexible working hours between 7:00am - 7:00pm with core hours of 9:00am - 3:00pm
