An experienced Water Hygiene Supervisor/Water AP is required to support Dalkia's NHS Herts contract, delivering water hygiene and water treatment services across a large, complex healthcare estate comprising of 76 healthcare buildings across Herts, Beds, Norfolk and Essex.
The role combines technical leadership, hands-on water hygiene expertise, and supervisory responsibility, with a primary focus on water sampling, legionella compliance and management. The post holder will ensure all water systems are operated, monitored, and maintained in full compliance with ACOP L8, HSG274, BS8580, HTM - 04-01 and site-specific Written Schemes.
The Supervisor will provide onsite expertise, manage Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive works, oversee a dedicated team and apprentices, coordinate specialist suppliers, and always maintain audit-ready documentation.
Main Resposnibilities
Act as the contract lead for all water safety operations, ensuring safe operation, monitoring, and statutory compliance at all times.
Plan, manage, and oversee water sampling, TMV and water safety PPM's and reactive works in accordance with ACOP L8, HTM 04-01 and HSG274 Part 1.
Ensure all Samples and resamples are taken inline with HTM 04-01
Review and interpret laboratory results, implementing corrective actions where results fall outside acceptable limits.
Maintain water safety logbooks, records, and certification to audit-ready standards.
Liaise with specialist Water safety contractors, managing access, permits, RAMS, and performance.
Identify defects, non-compliance, or system risks and ensure timely resolution.
Compile documentation to support internal audits, client audits, and regulatory inspections
Plan and monitor PPM and reactive works across domestic hot and cold water systems, closed systems, and associated plant via the CAFM system.
Undertake and supervise Legionella control activities including:
Outlet temperature monitorin
Low-use outlet flushing
Water sampling and trend analysis
Cleaning, disinfection, and descaling of outlets and equipmen
Inspect and report on cold water storage tanks, calorifiers, and associated assets.
Compliance, Documentation & Reporting
Conduct and review Legionella risk assessments and ensure control measures are implemented and maintained.
Maintain and update site logbooks and water hygiene records in line with Written Schemes.
Support the development, integration, and review of Written Schemes and operating procedures.
Produce high-quality technical reports, ensuring clear findings, actions, and recommendations.
Analyse data to provide evidence-based advice to the Contract Manager and Client stakeholders.
Supervision & People Management
Supervise water hygiene operatives and apprentices, ensuring safe systems of work and high technical standards.
Allocate work, monitor performance, and ensure completion of PPM and reactive tasks.
Manage timesheets, absence, and day-to-day operational coordination.
Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to staff.

Maintain a strong customer focus, building effective working relationships with Imperial College stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience Required
Strong technical knowledge of cooling towers, water hygiene, and water treatment.
In-depth understanding of ACOP L8, HSG274, BS8580, and Health & Safety legislation.
Experience using CAFM systems and Microsoft Word and Excel.
Demonstrate ability to adhere to recognized policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will require the ability to communicate confidently with an array of stakeholders to present and maintain a positive image of Dalkia.
Proven experience in water hygiene or water treatment within a commercial, academic, or healthcare environment.
Hold recognised water hygiene or water treatment qualifications (e.g. City & Guilds, Legionella Control / L8 awareness).
