Registered Nurse - Travel Health & Vaccination Clinic
Yip Pharmacy - Glasgow (south side, close to the city centre) £22 per hour inclusive of holiday pay | Part-time, flexible sessions
About the role
Yip Pharmacy is a GPhC-registered community pharmacy in Glasgow expanding its private clinical services. We are recruiting a Registered Nurse to deliver our travel health and vaccination clinic.
You will work within an established prescribing team. Patients complete a detailed medical and travel history online, which is reviewed by our prescribing pharmacist before any vaccine is authorised. Your role is the clinical checkpoint at the point of care: verifying the patient's history in person, confirming the authorised vaccine remains appropriate, and administering it safely.
This is a role with real clinical responsibility and strong support behind it. Our Superintendent Pharmacist leads clinical governance, and our prescribing pharmacist issues all Patient Specific Directions. You are never working without a prescriber available.
What you'll be doing
- Reviewing the patient's online medical and travel history against what they tell you face to face, and identifying any discrepancies, omissions or new information
- Confirming the authorised vaccine remains clinically appropriate before administration — and escalating to the prescribing pharmacist where it may not be
- Administering travel and routine vaccinations safely and accurately under Patient Specific Direction
- Confirming informed consent and answering patients' questions about the vaccines they are receiving
- Recognising and managing anaphylaxis and other adverse reactions
- Advising patients on aftercare, expected side effects and when to seek help
- Cold chain management, including monitoring, recording and escalating temperature excursions
- Accurate clinical record keeping, including documenting your pre-administration verification
- Contributing to audit, incident reporting and continuous improvement of the service
Essential
- Current NMC registration (Adult) with no restrictions or conditions
- Post-registration clinical experience in a role where you have exercised independent clinical judgement
- Competent and confident in vaccine administration by intramuscular and subcutaneous routes
- Current anaphylaxis and Basic Life Support training
- Experience working to Patient Specific Directions or written clinical protocols, and the confidence to pause and escalate when something doesn't add up
- Strong consultation skills — able to draw out information a patient may not have disclosed on a form
- Accurate record keeping, and a clear understanding of consent, capacity and confidentiality
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Experience in travel health, or a recognised travel health qualification (RCN travel health competencies, Faculty of Travel Medicine)
- Independent prescribing qualification (V300)
- Experience in community pharmacy, occupational health or general practice
- Phlebotomy competence
- Experience supporting the set-up of a new clinical service
What we offer
- £22 per hour inclusive of holiday pay, reviewed at six months. Minimum three-hour payment for every session that runs
- Sessions agreed in advance around your availability — we will build the clinic diary around the days and times that suit you
- This is a growing service, so we are starting with a small number of sessions per week and expect to add more as the clinic builds. We are upfront about that, and we are looking for someone who wants to grow with it rather than someone who needs full-time hours now
- Anaphylaxis and Basic Life Support updates paid for and completed in work time
- Indemnity cover arranged through the practice
- A named prescriber available during all clinic hours
- Genuine input into how the service develops
- A small, supportive team with no shift work, no nights and no on-call
