This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented Site Supervisor to join St Astier, a leading Specialist Contractor in the North East. We are based in Seaham, County Durham, however our expertise is sought throughout the UK. We offer a variety of work and there is scope to learn new skills which are centred around heritage masonry, lime plastering, concrete repairs and structural repairs including piling and ground anchors.
What you will be doing
The overall objective of the role is to support Contracts Managers in all aspects of work projects to achieve successful contract delivery. Day-to-day line management of a number of Foremen across multiple sites which may run concurrently. On occasions, carry out manual work on site, utilising a wide range of knowledge, skills and experience to ensure the completion of projects are delivered to programme, within cost parameters and to a high standard. Principle duties include:
- Support Contracts Managers with site surveys, job pricing, and planning.
- Organise and lead site start-up meetings to brief teams on project requirements.
- Supervise site foremen to ensure safe, productive working practices.
- Monitor project progress, productivity, quality, and performance against targets.
- Carry out site inspections, identify issues, and coordinate remedial actions.
- Ensure compliance with RAMS, permits, health & safety procedures, and company standards.
- Manage the efficient use of labour, plant, materials, and equipment to minimise waste.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and on-site training to develop team performance.
- Maintain regular communication with Contracts Managers and provide accurate progress reports.
- Promote a positive safety culture by identifying hazards and addressing unsafe behaviours.
- Support incident investigations and environmental compliance, including waste management.
- Maintain company tools, equipment, vehicles, and site assets to a high standard.
- Uphold company policies, professionalism, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance at all times.
Essential Criteria:
- SSSTS certification
- Full UK driving licence
- Proven track record in construction industry managing in-house operatives
- Significant experience as Site Manager/Supervisor delivering projects in construction/social housing
- Strong commercial awareness: cost control, managing variations, understanding delay implications
- Skilled in preparing and managing contract programmes
- Experienced in site Health & Safety and quality standards
- Ability to lead, motivate, and mentor teams
- Strong decision-making under pressure and tight deadlines without compromising quality
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Good listening and problem-solving abilities
- Professional, courteous, and team-oriented
- Capable of managing multiple sites running concurrently within tight deadlines whilst still ensuring timely completion
- Reliable attendance and timekeeping
Desirable Criteria
- Valid SSSTS card and construction H&S certificates
- Knowledge of structural repairs, concrete repairs, and stone restoration
- Multi-skilled in building maintenance and repair
- Ability to explain technical works clearly to varied audiences
- Strong client and subcontractor relationship-building skills
- Forward-thinking with excellent organisational skills
- IT literate for site management applications
- Flexible for revised site times, occasional weekend/night work
- Willing to travel outside North East and stay away when required
Pay: £38,750.00-£50,000.00 per year
