Job Summary
Lane Roofing Contractors — a long-established, family-run specialist in commercial and industrial roofing and cladding — is seeking a commercially minded Sales Estimator to join our growing team, based at our Perry Barr, Birmingham office.
This role covers everything from surveying and pricing small works, general repairs and maintenance jobs, through to supporting larger refurbishment, re-roofing and oversheeting tenders. You'll be the link between a client's roof problem and a costed, deliverable solution — visiting site, assessing the issue, pricing it accurately, and handing over a clean scope to our Contracts team so work can start without delay or rework.
We work exclusively with commercial and industrial clients — industrial units, factories, schools, commercial estates, property managers and manufacturing businesses — on projects ranging from £20k to £600k+. This is not a domestic or residential role.
We're open on experience level. A trade background in roofing or cladding — where you understand defects and repairs because you've done the work yourself — is just as strong a fit as an established commercial estimator looking for their next move. Salary is banded £40,000–£55,000 to reflect that, and we'll price the offer to the candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Survey and price small works, general repairs and maintenance roofing/cladding jobs, and support larger refurbishment, re-roof and oversheeting tenders as your experience allows.
- Attend site to assess roof condition and defects, and explain findings and practical repair options to clients face-to-face and with credibility.
- Prepare accurate, profitable quotations and tender submissions using Excel, Word and estimating software.
- Review technical drawings and specifications to identify scope, materials and risk on larger projects.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive, accurate pricing.
- Hand over won jobs cleanly to the Contracts team, with costing and scope clear enough for work to commence without rework.
- Maintain up-to-date pricing databases and material schedules.
- Build and maintain relationships with property managers, factories, schools and commercial estates — repeat and maintenance work matters here as much as new tenders.
Experience and Skills
- A trade background in roofing or cladding (ex-roofer, site supervisor or similar) is highly advantageous — equally, proven estimating experience within roofing, cladding or construction will be considered.
- Sound technical understanding of flat, pitched and industrial roofing systems, and the common causes of failure and repair.
- Strong numeracy and commercial awareness, with high attention to detail.
- Confident, credible communicator, comfortable talking a client through a roof problem and the fix on-site.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel); comfortable working from drawings and specifications.
- Full UK driving licence required — this role covers sites across the Midlands and nationwide.
- Familiarity with Kingspan, Ash & Lacey, Tata, Euroclad or similar systems is an advantage.
