Nursery Cook – Part Time
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am–1:00pm
20 hours per week
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Nursery Cook to join our small, friendly childcare setting.
We are a small, home-from-home nursery, caring for a small number of children in a warm and welcoming environment. We are looking for someone who takes pride in preparing fresh, healthy food and is confident managing all aspects of a nursery kitchen.
The Role
You will be responsible for:
- Preparing and cooking fresh, healthy, home-cooked meals and desserts for young children.
- Ensuring meals are nutritious and planned in accordance with current healthy eating guidance for early years settings.
- Preparing cold teas ready to be served later in the day.
- Catering safely for children with allergies, intolerances and individual dietary requirements.
- Planning varied, balanced and child-friendly menus.
- Ordering food and managing kitchen stock.
- Completing all required food safety, temperature, cleaning and kitchen records.
- Maintaining high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness.
- Keeping the kitchen clean, organised and tidy throughout the day.
- Thoroughly cleaning all kitchen appliances inside and out, as well as cupboards, work surfaces, floors and food preparation areas.
- Monitoring use-by dates, food rotation and appropriate food storage.
- Ensuring the kitchen consistently meets the standards expected within an early years setting.
About You
The successful applicant must have previous experience working in a similar cooking/catering role and be confident working independently.
You should:
- Have experience preparing fresh, home-cooked meals.
- Have a good understanding of food hygiene and allergen management.
- Be organised and able to manage menus, food orders and record keeping.
- Have excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Be reliable, punctual and able to work independently.
- Understand the importance of preparing nutritious meals for young children.
- Be comfortable working within a home-based childcare environment where household pets are present.
This position would suit someone who enjoys cooking from scratch and would prefer working within a small, friendly nursery rather than a large commercial kitchen.
