I am Disabled Adult with Muscular Dystrophy who requires 24/7 non-invasive ventilation. I am funded through an NHS Personal Health Budget, and I live in my own home with my disabled Mother and our two small dogs.
Shifts Available:
Week 1 (which is this week) - Friday
Week 2 - Monday, Friday and Sunday
Week 3 - Friday
Week 4 - Monday, Thursday and Saturday
I am looking to hire a personal assistant for 8 shifts per month (4 weeks). Giving a total of 96 hours per month.
Each shift is 12 hours long, 8am-8pm, on a rolling 4 week rota. You will be expected to work 2 weekend days every month.
I may be willing to be slightly flexible with times and total hours per month, please enquire, but shifts must be 12 hours long.
About me:
I have an interest in photography and like getting out to take photographs, I also like to take long walks in the countryside. I have a degree in Applied Physics and like science, technology and computing. I help various charities and I also spend a lot of time on my computer, especially during the colder months. I also like to go on long trips in my wheelchair adapted vehicle. I have two small dogs.
After poor experiences with care agencies I am looking to continue building a team that is reliable, flexible, understanding and can adapt to my specific needs.
I am looking for a trusted team off staff to allow me more freedom and independence. Recently I have not been able to pursue all of my hobbies and interests due to poor care situations/providers. I want to get my life back to being a more fulfilling and enjoyable one, along with setting myself new goals and challenges.
The people I am looking for:
Would need to work well with other team members.
Need to be slightly flexible, as sometimes I attend events/appointments and hours may need to be adjusted to facilitate this. I also need everyone to cover other shifts on occasion, for staff holidays and/or illness.
I am looking for people to help me lead the life I want and to feel safe while doing this. You would be helping me achieve this by supporting me with various things I can't physically do without help.
Non-smokers required due to my respiratory issues. No smoking or vaping on duty.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist me, a disabled adult, with daily living activities, including personal care, manual handling and hobbies.
- Drive my wheelchair accessible van to take me to appointments and on trips.
- Administer medication as prescribed and monitor health conditions.
- Attend appointments with me, and act as my advocate should I ask.
- Ensure a safe environment and assist with mobility.
- Keep my home environment clean and tidy.
- Attend to my pet's needs when requested.
- Assist with household tasks and shopping.
- Maintain confidentiality.
Requirements:
- Female applicants only.
- You must be willing to have a valid Enhanced DBS check (I can apply and pay for this).
- You must have a valid driver's license and be willing to drive my van, my van has an automatic transmission.
- You must not smoke or vape during your shift.
- You should be willing to work 2 weekend days per month on a regular basis.
- You should be honest, hardworking, respect my privacy and confidentiality, and be a quick learner.
- You should be respectful of my family and friends, as well as my two dogs.
- You should be able to be flexible on occasion and work longer hours or different days.
- You should have care experience.
- You should be happy and competent performing personal care.
- You should be happy doing routine household tasks.
- You should be willing to accompany me on long walks, these can be several miles.
- You must have the right to work in the UK , I cannot sponsor anyone.
Interviews:
There will be two stages to the interview process.
The first interview will be fairly informal, with basic questions. If everything goes well and I am considering you for the role a second interview will be arranged.
The second interview will involve you driving my vehicle with one of my current staff assessing, helping and giving feedback.
Further Details:
You will be directly employed by myself, unfortunately I cannot accept anyone who is self employed.
You will be provided with all appropriate training. An enhanced DBS check will be paid for by me, if you don't currently have an online one. You will be registered with ILG PA at my expense, this includes various benefits. Payroll is handled by an experienced company approved by the NHS.
The pay is a flat rate set by the NHS, there are no bonuses for public holidays etc. You will be expected to work these as normal if they fall on your shift without extra pay.
I am claiming an exemption to the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 Section 7 (2)(ba) on the grounds of private households.
You must have a valid driver's license with no points or at fault insurance claims.
