As a Finance Business Partner within our Maritime & Renewables business unit, you act as a trusted financial advisor to project managers and management in an international project-based consultancy environment. You contribute to the financial performance of a diverse portfolio of maritime and renewable energy projects through analysis, challenge and business partnering. The role offers broad exposure across tenders, project execution and portfolio management within a commercially driven international business.
At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology. Our mission, "Enhancing Society Together," drives us to create a positive impact on the world.
We offer purpose-driven and challenging work in diverse international projects, leveraging our 140+ years of expertise. With over 6,800 employees in more than 25 countries, we work together to turn challenges into opportunities and make a real impact on society.
You will be part of our Maritime & Renewables team within the Water & Maritime business line. This internationally connected business supports clients across the full project lifecycle, from strategy and feasibility studies to design and construction support. Our projects include port developments, offshore wind infrastructure, coastal resilience programmes and maritime investments for clients around the world. Working across countries and disciplines is a key part of how we work.
In this role, you combine financial analysis with a strong understanding of project dynamics, risks and commercial considerations. Working closely with project managers and management, you provide insights that improve control, transparency and business performance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Act as a financial business partner to project managers throughout the project lifecycle. Provide independent analyses and support discussions through the Project Health Check methodology.
- Identify risks, trends and deviations through forward-looking analyses, and escalate relevant issues to management.
- Challenge proposal managers during tender and proposal phases on pricing, financial structure, cash flow, risk allocation, tax and currency aspects, especially for non-routine tenders.
- Support project teams in identifying opportunities to improve performance, enhance profitability and mitigate risks.
- Provide portfolio-level financial and operational analyses on project results, working capital, workload, capacity and overall performance.
- Prepare regular and ad-hoc reports to support decision-making.
- Build strong relationships with project managers, business leaders and other stakeholders across the organisation.
You are an analytically strong finance professional who communicates clearly, works independently and translates financial data into actionable insights. You are comfortable challenging stakeholders constructively and understand the dynamics of project-based organisations.
Furthermore:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Economics, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field. ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification is advantageous.
- Up to 5 years of relevant experience in project control, business partnering, finance control or a comparable finance role.
- Solid understanding of finance and management control, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, margin analysis and working capital in a project environment.
- Experience with project reporting, project performance reviews and assessing financial risks and opportunities.
- Ability to evaluate the impact of project risks on profitability, cash flow and overall financial performance.
- Familiarity with data analytics, financial systems and reporting tools.
- Strong analytical skills combined with commercial awareness and sound judgement.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to challenge, advise and support stakeholders through fact-based discussions.
- Proficient in Excel and comfortable working with financial systems and project data.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- Willingness to travel occasionally within the UK and internationally.
