The City of Edinburgh Council is committed to ensuring that all our residents live in safe, healthy, and high-quality homes. We are seeking a highly skilled and technically proficient Preservation Surveyor to join our established team in our efforts in tackling damp, mould, and structural moisture issues across our housing stock.
This is a critical role within our Property Services team. You will be one of the technical authorities on building pathology, responsible for diagnosing complex issues and specifying robust, long-term remedial solutions. You will play a key part in our commitment to meeting the requirements of Awaab’s Law , ensuring that our response to damp and mould is rapid, effective, and prioritizes the health and wellbeing of our tenants.
Key Responsibilities
- Advanced Diagnostics: Conduct comprehensive site surveys to identify the root causes of damp, mould, condensation, and timber decay, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools.
- Technical Specification: Produce detailed, professional reports and remedial specifications that provide clear, actionable instructions for our maintenance teams and contractors.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all works are compliant with the Scottish Housing Quality Standard (SHQS) and the Energy Efficiency Standard for Social Housing (EESSH).
- Awaab’s Law Implementation: Act as one of the Council’s subject matter expert’s on Awaab’s Law . You will ensure our processes meet the strict legal timelines for investigation and repair, ensuring that tenant health is the primary driver of our service delivery.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Provide expert technical advice to housing officers, contractors, and residents, ensuring clear communication regarding the nature of repairs and the expected outcomes.
- Quality Assurance: Monitor the quality of remedial works to ensure they meet the highest industry standards and prevent the recurrence of issues.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must hold one of the following industry-recognized qualifications:
- CSRT (Certificated Surveyor in Remedial Treatment)
- CSTDB (Certificated Surveyor in Timber and Damp in Buildings)
- CSSW (Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing)

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
