Warehouse & Fulfilment Assistant
Hours: 20 paid hours per week
Days: Monday - Thursday
Working hours: 12:00pm - 5:30pm, including a 30 minute unpaid lunch break each day
Location: Marsh Lane, Preston (between the docks and city centre areas)
We are a growing small business looking for a reliable Warehouse & Fulfilment Assistant to join our team.
No previous warehouse experience is required. Full training will be provided.
We are much more interested in finding someone who learns quickly, works consistently, follows instructions properly and takes pride in doing things accurately.
This is a hands-on and physically active role. A good level of physical fitness is important, as you will spend all of the shift standing, moving stock, handling parcels and carrying out repetitive warehouse tasks.
Main duties
Your work will vary depending on what the business needs and may include:
- Packing customer orders
- Sorting liquidation and clearance stock
- Preparing inventory for online sale
- Bagging or bundling multiple units
- Applying product and inventory labels
- Sorting, counting and preparing trading cards for sale
- Opening and processing customer returns and trade-ins
- Carrying out stock and supply counts
- Organising stock
- Moving parcels and inventory around the warehouse
- Keeping working areas organised and tidy
- Helping with other general warehouse and fulfilment tasks as required
Repetitive nature of the work
This role can be very repetitive, and we want to be upfront about that.
Some tasks may involve repeating essentially the same short process hundreds of times per day, and there may be periods where you do very similar work for several weeks at a time.
For the right person, this can make the job quite relaxed and straightforward. Once trained, you can get into a routine, keep your hands busy, talk with colleagues and listen to music or podcasts where safe and appropriate.
You will still be expected to maintain a consistent pace, good accuracy and attention to detail throughout the shift.
This role is likely to suit someone who enjoys routine, practical work and getting into a steady rhythm. If you need constant variety to stay engaged, it may not be the right fit.
What we are looking for
You do not need previous warehouse experience.
We are looking for someone who:
- Learns new tasks and processes quickly
- Is consistent and maintains a good standard of work throughout the shift
- Is reliable and punctual
- Is honest and trustworthy
- Pays close attention to detail
- Can work at a steady and productive pace
- Is genuinely comfortable with highly repetitive hands-on work
- Can stay focused and accurate when doing the same task for long periods
- Has a good level of physical fitness
- Is comfortable standing and moving around for extended periods
- Is able to safely lift and move boxes weighing up to 23kg as part of the role
- Can work independently once trained
- Is happy working in a small-business environment
- Will follow established processes and instructions properly
- Can read, understand and follow written and spoken instructions in English
- Is willing to ask when unsure rather than guessing
Training
Full training will be provided.
We expect new starters to be supervised and supported while learning each task. Once trained and confident, you will gradually be expected to complete routine work independently.
Previous experience is welcome, but it is not a requirement. We would rather hire someone dependable, consistent and quick to learn than someone with years of experience who is unwilling to learn our way of working.
Physical nature of the role
This is a genuine warehouse role rather than a desk-based position.
The job involves:
- Being on your feet for all of the shift
- Regular walking, bending, reaching and moving stock
- Repetitive hand movements
- Carrying and moving parcels and boxes
- Lifting boxes weighing up to 23kg
- Using basic warehouse tools such as safety knives after appropriate training
Applicants should be comfortable with these requirements.
Benefits
- Small-business working environment
- Clear tasks and routine work
- Full training provided
- No previous warehouse experience required
- Casual clothing – wear whatever is comfortable and practical for warehouse work
- Friendly working environment where conversation is fine while working
- Music and podcasts can be listened to while working after training, where safe and appropriate
- Shared break room with vending machines
- Optional additional hours may become available as the business grows
- Opportunity to take on additional responsibility and grow with the business if reliable and suitable
We are looking for someone who wants to become a dependable part of a small team. If you are reliable, physically capable, learn quickly and are comfortable doing repetitive work consistently to a good standard, we would be happy to hear from you.
Pay: £8.00-£12.71 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 per week
Benefits:
- Casual dress
