We are currently looking for a hands-on Buyer to support our Supply Chain team in ensuring materials are available to meet production demand. This is a fast-paced, operational role focused on purchase order management, supplier communication, and expediting deliveries.
You will play a key role in keeping production running smoothly by ensuring orders are placed accurately, suppliers are engaged daily, and any issues are resolved quickly and effectively.
This role is ideal for someone with early-career experience in purchasing, planning, or supply chain who enjoys a practical, problem-solving environment and is looking to develop further within a manufacturing business.
Job Responsibilities
- Raise and manage purchase orders in line with production and customer demand
- Perform checks prior to releasing purchase orders to ensure accuracy and alignment with requirements
- Maintain accurate purchase order confirmations, including delivery dates and quantities
- Communicate daily with suppliers to confirm orders, track progress, and resolve queries
- Proactively expedite deliveries to ensure materials are available to meet production timelines
- Monitor and respond to material shortages, delays, and changes in demand
- Reschedule, amend, or cancel orders in line with business requirements
- Maintain accurate data within the ERP/MRP system to support planning and reporting
- Support the management of excess and slow-moving inventory
- Work closely with internal teams including Production, Planning, Quality, and Finance to resolve supply-related issues
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers to support delivery performance
- Support reporting on supplier delivery performance and order fulfilment
- Assist with general purchasing activities as required by the Supply Chain team
Job Requirements
- Previous experience in a purchasing, buying, or supply chain role (typically 1–3 years)
- Experience raising and managing purchase orders within an ERP/MRP system
- Confident communicating with suppliers via email and phone on a regular basis
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Good attention to detail and accuracy when working with data and orders
- Proactive approach to problem solving, particularly in fast-moving environments
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Desirable
- Experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP or Infor LN
- Experience in expediting deliveries and managing supplier performance
- Understanding of inventory management and material planning principles
- Wanting to develop a long-term career within supply chain or procurement
