About the employer
The Employer is lady living in her own home in Corby. She has been diagnosed as being in the early stages of Lewys Body Dementia.
A female personal assistant is sought to support her in her continued independent life and to assist her to enjoy her pastimes and activities.
Main Duties
· To prompt and motivate the Employer to take a shower (she can shower independently but due to her conditions causing fear, she needs motivating to do so). Whilst she is showering, lay out her clothes for her.
· Check/prompt/remind the employer to take her daily medications. The family will sort her necessary medications into Dossett boxes as required.
· Assist her to make hot and cold drinks, ensuring that her fluid intake is sufficient, especially in hot weather.
· Accompany her to the local café (across the road) for a coffee and a natter.
· Offer companionship and motivation so that she engages in things she likes doing – i.e. dominoes, adult colouring books etc and suggest other activities to try, where appropriate.
· A full licence holder with used of a reliable car is essential as you will be required to drive the Employer to her Social Club in Geddington (day to be confirmed) and also to her Warm Space Club in Cottingham on a Wednesday. You must also have business cover on your motor insurance policy. Proof will be required. Mileage will be paid, minus commute.
· Assist with light household chores – this will be a co-operative venture as the Employer likes to do as much as she can herself, however there are chores she is no longer able to complete.
· Assist with the pegging out of laundry. The Employer can put a wash on, but will need help unloading the machine and hanging it out.
· The Employer wears continence products. Gentle prompting and reminding to change these as needed. You will also need to check that items of used/wet underclothing are placed in the washing machine (the Employer sometimes mistakenly puts these away).
· Any other task which the Employer may reasonably ask you to do which falls within the scope of the job as a Personal Assistant.
Additional employment information
The successful applicant will be friendly, able to give empathetic support, while respecting the employer’s independence but also able to take instruction.
The Employer has a small friendly dog, so you must be comfortable around animals. No pet care is involved, however you may need to keep an eye on how many treats/quantity of food the Employer gives her dog.
Must be flexible, trustworthy and active with a good sense of humour.
If applying through Indeed, please be aware that you will then need to complete and submit an application form via a link, to the North Northamptonshire Council website, that will be sent directly to you by PBSS.
Please note you will be directly employed by the person (or their representative) that you will be assisting. The Council is not the employer.
