Job Overview
This is an opportunity for a Management Accountant to join our Operational Finance team in Glasgow. This role operates out of our Glasgow office. The role of the Management Accountant has a variety of responsibilities, involving responsibility for the management accounts, contribution to the reporting packs, forecasting and tackling emerging requirements as part of the core Finance team of the Group. There are plenty of challenges and opportunities to develop your business acumen and accounting skills.
The successful candidate will be exposed to a fast-paced, acquisitive and ever-changing corporate environment. The role will report directly to the FBP & Lead Management Accountant (title TBC), have daily contact with the other FBP/MA team, and communicate with operational staff on a regular basis. We are looking for a professional to uphold professional rigour, but at the same time forge a warm and constructive relationship with business colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
· Responsibility for preparation of monthly management accounts for business units, ensuring completely, accurate and timely reporting in line with reporting deadlines.
· Preparation of monthly reporting packs including KPIs; supported by clear variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior year.
· Preparation and maintenance of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring integrity of financial data and prompt resolution of reconciling items.
· Ownership of monthly revenue and cost reconciliations, validating underlying movements and ensuring compliance with Group accounting policies and IFRS requirements.
· Analysis and reconciliation of overhead expenditure, payroll costs and headcount movements, investigating variances and highlighting areas requiring attention.
· Ownership of cost forecasting and support for wider budgeting and forecasting processes through the provision of robust financial data and assumptions.
· Support forecasting activities through accurate financial modelling and maintenance of underlying data.
· Ensure the accuracy, completeness and integrity of financial records, controls and reporting processes.
· Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, strengthen controls and drive standardisation across the Operational Finance team.
· Support internal and external audit requirements, providing documentation and explanations as required.
· Build effective working relationships with operational colleagues, acting as a trusted finance contact on accounting, reporting and process-related matters.
· Support the FBP team with analysis and ad hoc projects, providing high-quality financial information to enable business decision-making.
· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and other ad hoc projects across the wider Finance function.
To be successful you should bring:
· Part-qualified, finalist or fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ICAS or equivalent).
· Strong management accounting experience, including month-end reporting, reconciliations, forecasting and budgeting.
· Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to build, maintain and enhance forecasting, reporting and financial models.
· Strong analytical skills, with the ability to investigate variances, identify trends and ensure the integrity of financial information.
· Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality financial reporting.
· A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous process improvement.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively to tight reporting deadlines.
· Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a wider finance team.
· A confident communicator who can build effective working relationships with operational and finance colleagues.
· Experience of working within a fast-paced, changing commercial environment.
Additional desirable qualities:
· Experience of developing or improving financial reporting and forecasting models.
· Experience of using Power BI or similar reporting tools.
· Experience of using FinancialForce/Certinia.
· Experience of using Workday Adaptive Planning.
· Experience of supporting audits and maintaining strong financial controls.
