Location: South London (travel required across sites) Pay: Fixed monthly fee for a set weekly hours, with scope to increase over time
Reports to: Homes Manager
About Us
Pinewood Residential Care provides children's homes and supported accommodation for young people and care leavers (18–25) across London. We're committed to giving every young person a safe, well-maintained, high-standard home as part of their journey towards independence.
The Role
We're looking for a reliable, hands-on Maintenance Handyman to join our team in-house. You'll be the go-to person for keeping our homes in excellent condition — covering everything from electrics and painting to carpentry and general repairs. You'll work flexibly across our South London properties, responding to whatever each home needs that week, while helping us maintain the consistently high standards our residents deserve.
This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who can turn their hand to multiple trades and takes pride in a job well done.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and minor improvement works across our homes
- Handling a mix of trade tasks including basic electrics, painting and decorating, and carpentry
- Responding to reactive repairs as well as planned maintenance visits
- Carrying out routine checks to catch issues before they become bigger problems
- Sourcing materials and keeping tools/equipment in good working order
- Keeping simple records of work completed at each property
- Flagging any works that need a specialist contractor or fall outside your scope
- Working safely and in line with relevant building and safety standards
- Being respectful and appropriate in your conduct when working in homes where young people live
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a handyman/maintenance operative, ideally covering multiple trades
- Working knowledge of basic electrics, painting/decorating, and carpentry
- Comfortable travelling between sites across South London
- Reliable, well-organised, and able to prioritise jobs that vary week to week
- A practical problem-solver who takes ownership of getting jobs done properly
- Good communication skills — able to liaise with home managers and staff
What We Offer
- Fixed monthly fee for an agreed set number of hours per week
- Opportunity for hours (and pay) to increase over time as the role develops
- Variety of work across different homes and properties
- The chance to make a real, visible difference to the environments young people call home
Pay: £23.82-£40.59 per hour
Experience:
- Carpentry: 1 year (required)
- Facilities maintenance: 2 years (required)
Work authorisation:
- United Kingdom (required)
Work Location: In person
