At Best Lives, we are committed to supporting people to live fulfilling and meaningful lives. We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Supervisor to join our People Team and play a key role in ensuring our payroll operations run smoothly and accurately.
The Role
As Payroll Supervisor, you will oversee the end-to-end coordination of payroll activities managed by our external payroll provider. You will ensure payroll data is accurate, complete, and submitted within strict deadlines while maintaining compliance with statutory and contractual requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys working collaboratively, leading a small team, and driving continuous improvement within payroll processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, support, and manage the payroll function, including line management of the People Team Administrator
- Coordinate weekly and four-weekly payroll submissions across multiple locations.
- Ensure payroll data is accurate, complete, and submitted within agreed timescales.
- Act as the primary liaison between the organisation and the outsourced payroll provider.
- Process payroll adjustments, advances, and payments outside standard payroll runs.
- Complete year-end payroll activities and statutory submissions to HMRC and pension providers.
- Produce payroll reports and management information as required.
- Support the ongoing development and improvement of payroll and workforce processes.
Essential Requirements
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/Level 4 or above.
- A recognised Payroll Qualification.
- Significant experience working within a senior payroll environment.
- Experience managing or supervising staff.
- Excellent administration, organisational, and communication skills.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and payroll databases/systems.
- In-depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
- Experience producing payroll reports and management information.
