We are a business looking for an experienced, trustworthy and organised Bookkeeper to join our friendly team. This is a varied role, ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of the company's finance function while providing day-to-day administrative support to the management team.
We're looking for someone who wants to become a key member of our business, not just process paperwork. The successful candidate will take ownership of our finance function, support the directors with financial information and help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the business. We're looking for someone we can trust to manage this vital area.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the company's accounts using Sage 50 Accounts.
- Process monthly payroll using Sage 50 Payroll.
- Administer the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), including subcontractor verification and monthly returns.
- Prepare applications for payment and raise sales invoices.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations.
- Process supplier invoices, prepare supplier payments and issue remittance advices.
- Manage credit control and monitor customer payments.
- Monitor cash flow and provide financial updates to management.
- Assist with VAT preparation and complete quarterly VAT returns.
- Maintain accurate financial records and assist with month-end procedures.
- Act as the main point of contact for finance-related queries.
- Carry out general office administration and provide day-to-day support to the management team.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and office efficiency.
- Assist with any other administrative duties required within a busy family-run business.
Essential Requirements
- AAT Level 3 qualification (minimum) / or minimum 5 years' experience in a similar bookkeeping role.
- Excellent working knowledge of Sage 50 Accounts and Sage 50 Payroll.
- Strong understanding of CIS and VAT.
- Experience with bank reconciliations, invoicing, applications for payment, supplier payments and credit control.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and confidently manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity, discretion and confidentiality.
Monday: 9:00am–3:00pm = 5.5 hours
Tuesday: 9:00am–3:00pm = 5.5 hours
Wednesday: 9:00am–3:00pm = 5.5 hours
Thursday: 9:00am–3:00pm = 5.5 hours
Friday: 9:00am–1:00pm = 4 hours
Total weekly hours: 26 hours – 30 minutes paid lunch
