General Manager – Old Town Tavern, Clapham
£37,000–£39,000 per year | Full-time
We’re looking for an ambitious General Manager to take the reins at Old Town Tavern in Clapham Old Town.
This role would be ideal for a strong Assistant General Manager looking to make the step up into their first GM position, or a newer General Manager looking for the opportunity to develop, take ownership of a venue and make their mark.
You don’t need to have years of GM experience behind you. What’s more important to us is that you’re a confident leader, commercially aware, passionate about hospitality and ready to take responsibility for your own pub.
About Old Town Tavern
Old Town Tavern is a busy, characterful pub in the heart of Clapham Old Town. We have 20 taps on the bar, a strong craft beer offering, food, live sport and a basement games room featuring smart darts, pool and retro arcade games.
With five screens plus a projector upstairs, sport is an important part of the business, alongside building strong everyday trade, events and private bookings.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is currently a strong AGM, Deputy Manager or recently promoted GM
- Is ready to take ownership of their own venue
- Can lead, motivate and develop a team
- Has a good understanding of sales, labour, GP and controlling costs
- Understands the importance of standards, compliance and great customer service
- Is commercially minded and always looking for opportunities to grow sales
- Is comfortable running busy shifts and leading from the front
- Has a genuine interest in pubs, beer, food and hospitality
- Has experience working in a quality pub or bar environment
- Craft beer knowledge would be an advantage, but isn't essential
The role
As General Manager, you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day running and performance of Old Town Tavern.
You’ll be responsible for building and developing your team, maintaining excellent operational standards, managing labour and costs, driving sales and ensuring customers have a great experience every time they visit.
We want someone who will treat the pub as their own business — spotting opportunities, getting involved in the local community, building events and bookings and continually looking at ways to improve the venue.
For someone stepping into their first GM role, you’ll have support and training from the senior management team, while still being given the autonomy to run the pub and develop your own management style.
