Safer Sphere is a leading national consultancy specialising in Construction Health & Safety, CDM and Building Safety. We work across the full building lifecycle, supporting clients on some of the UK’s most complex and high-profile projects.
Our purpose is simple: to make buildings safer.
Everything we do is underpinned by our CARE values – Competence, Ambition, Relationships and Excellence – and guided by our NESW principles – Navigating, Engaging, Supporting and Willing.
As our business continues to grow, we’re building our in-house legal function and looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join us on a part-time basis.
This is our second legal appointment, so you’ll have a genuine opportunity to shape how legal support is delivered across the business. You’ll work closely with colleagues at all levels, providing clear, proportionate advice that helps us make confident decisions, manage risk and keep work moving.
The role
Your main focus will be reviewing, drafting and negotiating construction and professional services contracts, including:
- Consultant appointments
- NEC and JCT agreements
- Professional services and consultancy agreements
- Framework agreements
- Public procurement agreements
- Non-disclosure agreements
- Terms and conditions
You’ll identify the points that matter, explain their practical and commercial impact, and help colleagues find a sensible way forward.
You’ll also:
- Provide straightforward legal advice on general commercial, corporate and regulatory matters.
- Support the business with complaints, disputes and other contentious matters when needed.
- Help improve our contract templates, legal guidance and internal processes.
- Build legal awareness across the business.
- Support corporate and company secretarial matters where required.
- Work with external legal advisers when specialist support is needed.
What we’re looking for
You’ll be a qualified solicitor, barrister or equivalent legal professional, with a minimum of two to three years’ post-qualification experience.
You’ll also bring:
- Strong experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
- The confidence to manage matters independently within your experience.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to explain legal risk without unnecessary jargon.
- A practical, commercially balanced approach.
- Good judgement and the confidence to challenge constructively.
- Strong organisation and the ability to balance different priorities and deadlines.
- An approachable and collaborative working style.
Experience in an in-house role would be helpful but isn’t essential.
We’d be particularly interested in hearing from you if you have experience in any of the following:
- Construction law and consultant appointments
- CDM Regulations, Building Regulations or the Building Safety Act
- Corporate or company secretarial matters
- Employment law
- Contract management processes, templates or playbooks
You don’t need to tick every box. What matters most is that you can give sound, practical advice, build trusted relationships and help the business manage risk without creating unnecessary barriers.
Why join Safer Sphere?
You’ll be joining a growing, ambitious and employee-owned business where your contribution will be visible and valued.
Our CARE values – Competence, Ambition, Relationships and Excellence – shape how we work, while our NESW principles – Navigating, Engaging, Supporting and Willing – guide how we work with colleagues and clients.
We take our responsibilities seriously, but we keep our approach straightforward, collaborative and focused on making a genuine difference.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a varied in-house role, meaningful part-time flexibility and the chance to help develop a legal function from an early stage.
