Role of the post holder: To lead and support the local implementation of perinatal pelvic health service (PPHS) designed at Epsom and St Helier in collaboration with Southwest London (SW Local Maternity and Neonatal system (LMNS), Surrey Heartlands and NHS England. This is in line with the NHS Long Term plan commitment to improve access to postnatal physiotherapy services for women. The local ambition which is that ALL women are to have education and advice around pelvic health and access to Physiotherapy services in the postnatal period.
The post holder will be a champion for Pelvic Health and the expectation is that they will be responsible for promoting good quality midwifery/ obstetric led interventions which aim to reduce pelvic floor muscle dysfunction for childbearing women.
The post holder will work closely with professional colleagues and women to plan and coordinate their care based on their individual needs. You will have key roles in providing training in perineal and bladder care for midwifery staff and in ensuring policy and evidence based guideline developments are in line with national recommendations.
- Be responsible for developing and taking the lead in promoting good pelvic health in
pregnancy and the postnatal period.
- Ensure delivery of the highest quality effective care, prioritising and utilising research and in collaboration with colleagues in everyday practice.
- Support midwifery staff in clinical practice by working alongside them in the clinical areas.
- Maintain clinical competence in all midwifery practice areas.
- Lead with maternity practice development team, the training/development strategy for all staff in maternity services and primary care on prevention, recognition, and treatment of pelvic health issues and to ensure evidence-based information for women
and birthing people on pelvic health.
- As a senior member of the midwifery team, review and influence the development and Implementation of policies based on local, national and international agendas.
- Ensure women receive timely access to NICE recommended treatment for common pelvic health problems in the antenatal and postnatal period.
- Coordinate between pelvic health services and community services which may include sexual health and mental health services.
- Provide consistent, personalised care that is supported by clear pathways across Epsom and St Helier hospitals and SWL and Surrey Heartlands irrespective of postcode to reduce unwarranted variation.
- Ensure that key performance indicators of the PPHS are achieved and reported to NHS England.
