Freelance / Casual Turnaround Cleaner
The Vedanta
Role Overview
We are looking to build a reliable pool of experienced cleaners who can support us primarily on retreat turnaround days.
The role will involve preparing guest bedrooms and bathrooms between retreats, working as part of a wider housekeeping team to make sure all rooms are completed on time and to a consistently high standard.
This is a flexible role rather than guaranteed full-time employment. Hours will depend on retreat bookings and the number of bedrooms requiring turnaround.
Main Responsibilities
- Cleaning and preparing guest bedrooms.
- Cleaning ensuite bathrooms to a high standard.
- Making beds and changing linen.
- Vacuuming and cleaning floors.
- Cleaning surfaces, mirrors and furniture.
- Emptying bins.
- Replenishing toiletries and guest amenities.
- Checking under beds and furniture.
- Ensuring the correct towels and linen are provided.
- Reporting maintenance issues or damage.
- Reporting any guest belongings left behind.
- Following the Vedanta bedroom cleaning checklist.
- Marking rooms as completed through our housekeeping system.
- Returning to rooms where something has been identified during the final inspection.
- Helping with public areas or other housekeeping duties where required.
Turnaround Days
Most work will be required during our larger retreat changeovers.
Typical turnaround shifts are likely to be approximately:
10:30am – 3:00pm
Hours may vary depending on the number of bedrooms, retreat timings and operational requirements.
Cleaners will normally be allocated a number of bedrooms at the beginning of the shift.
Our initial expectation is approximately 30–40 minutes per standard departure bedroom, although this will vary depending on:
- Number of beds.
- Size of the room.
- Condition of the room.
- Additional bathrooms.
- Any unusual cleaning requirements.
The priority is not simply speed. Rooms need to be completed efficiently and to the required standard.
Cleaners who consistently work efficiently and maintain excellent standards will be offered work wherever possible.
What We Are Looking For
Ideally you will:
- Have previous professional cleaning experience.
- Have hotel, accommodation, holiday-let or commercial housekeeping experience.
- Have excellent attention to detail.
- Be reliable and punctual.
- Be comfortable working to deadlines.
- Be able to work independently once rooms have been allocated.
- Work well as part of a team.
- Be physically capable of making beds, moving linen and completing cleaning duties.
- Take pride in presentation and cleanliness.
- Be willing to learn the property, bedroom layouts and our standards.
Although the work is flexible, we would ideally like people who can work with us regularly so that they become familiar with the building, our systems and our expectations.
There may also be opportunities for additional hours covering:
- Public areas.
- Deep cleaning.
- Holiday/sickness cover.
- Linen preparation.
- Larger retreats and events.
Progression
We would also like to identify one or two experienced cleaners who could eventually act as a Turnaround Lead / QA Lead.
This would involve helping supervise the cleaning team and inspecting completed bedrooms, with an increased rate of pay when carrying out the additional responsibility.
Rate
£14.00 per hour
Higher rate available when acting as a Turnaround Lead / QA Lead.
