Operations Director
Location: St Albans
Salary: £100,000 – £120,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus
About the Role
We are exclusively supporting an established and growing care provider with the appointment of an Operations Director to lead operational performance across a significant regional portfolio of care services.
This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for ensuring consistently high standards of care, quality, compliance and commercial performance across the region. You will work closely with senior operational leaders and Home Managers, providing clear direction, challenge and support while contributing to the wider strategic development of the organisation.
The role will suit an experienced regional or operational leader who is comfortable balancing people, quality, regulatory compliance and commercial performance across a multi-site care portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide effective operational leadership and oversight across a portfolio of care services.
- Ensure the safety, wellbeing and experience of residents remains central to operational delivery.
- Lead, develop and performance-manage senior operational teams and Home Managers.
- Drive improvements in quality, compliance, governance and overall service performance.
- Monitor operational KPIs, identifying risks, trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Oversee internal quality and compliance processes, ensuring appropriate action plans are implemented and followed through.
- Provide constructive challenge and support to Home Managers to improve performance and outcomes.
- Support the development and implementation of operational policies, procedures and best practice.
- Build strong relationships with local authority, health and social care stakeholders and other key partners.
- Support services to develop strong local relationships and maximise occupancy and commercial performance.
- Ensure effective management of complaints, incidents, safeguarding and other areas of operational risk.
- Maintain oversight of financial performance, including revenue, staffing costs and overall profitability.
- Provide regular performance updates, insight and recommendations to the Managing Director and wider leadership team.
- Lead and facilitate regional management meetings, ensuring effective communication and accountability.
- Identify opportunities to improve operating models, facilities and service provision.
- Contribute to wider organisational strategy and business development initiatives.
- Ensure appropriate training, development and competency standards are maintained across the region.
- Promote a positive culture centred around residents, colleagues, continuous improvement and high-quality care.
About You
We are looking for an accomplished senior care leader with substantial experience operating across a multi-site adult social care environment.
You will ideally have:
- Significant experience in a Regional Director, Operations Director, Regional Operations or similar senior leadership position.
- A strong understanding of the operational, regulatory and commercial demands of running multiple care services.
- A proven track record of improving quality, compliance and operational performance.
- Strong leadership capability, with the ability to coach, challenge and develop senior managers.
- Excellent knowledge of the regulatory environment and relevant health and social care legislation.
- Commercial awareness and experience of managing budgets, staffing costs, occupancy and service performance.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience working effectively with local authorities, health partners and other external stakeholders.
- A relevant Level 5 qualification in Leadership for Health and Social Care, or willingness to work towards one, would be advantageous.
- A full UK driving licence, with the flexibility to travel extensively across the region.
